Measure program?

Postby BubbleQ on Tue Jun 30, 2009 2:33 pm

Hi, I have been lately getting in need of a program that could with 1 or 2 simple clicks, measure the screen in pixels (maybe inches, centimeters)

I wonder if there is a program like that or if not, will it be hard to make one?

It can be done, at least on newer monitors. It's not as straightforward as you might think though. Counting the number of pixels is easy - it's just the screen mode. Getting inches or centimeters is a little different. Even the DPI settings a user has on their computer can be off - and typically is. What needs to be done is to detect the model of the monitor and look up the dimensions in a database. I know no other way.

what do you mean "measure the screen in pixels?" Cause you can always check to see what resolution your monitor is running at :D

But I think you mean you want to measure the distance between two points, and for that you can either take a screenshot and look at it in photoshop. Or download a little screengrab program that I use called "Hoversnap" and if you press control+printscreen then draw a box over an area it'll give you the dimensions before it takes a screenshot.

like this on the left.
