Upgrade Advice? DX10 <-> DX11?

  • Cooler Master HAF 922 Midi Tower Sort
  • Chieftec Super Series PSU 750W Modular
  • USB2 multicardreader 3.5" sort for
  • ASUS P5Q SE2, P45, Socket-775
  • Intel Core™ 2 Quad Q8200 2,33GHz,

  • Samsung DVD±RW burner, SH-S223B
  • HP 22" LE2201w,WIDE LCD, 5ms,1680x1050
  • MS ROYALTY Vista Home Premium WIN7 Upgradable

This is sort of my upgrade for the 21st century.
The math:
(1 U.S. dollar = 5.93640918 Norwegian kroner)
11912.67 NOK / 5.93640918 = 2006,7130884667218980346634394228 USD
~2007 USD

So I was wondering, should I wait for DX11 to arrive on GFX cards? :|

I use a laptop now with Intel Dual Core and M9600GT and have a PC with 8800GS and AMD X2 +4200
And I really feel like using some money.

I was thinking that the market is soon there for DX11 and then DX10 cards will drop in prices.

But is DX11 really that great?
Is it going to be a failure like DX10? Meaning that not many developers will use it to its full potential?

The new features look awesome, but the DX10 "release" was so dull in a matter that people kinda rejected it at first.

So what do you guys think about DX11?

I heard yesterday that DX9 graphics cards will support DX11:

Waste of time. Don't bother waiting to upgrade. Not many developers have taken up DX10 to begin with so I don't see why you should wait for DX11.

Ok, now that's the most crazy ting I've seen. Is that claim still valid?

Well, I really hope more developers takes use of DX11, we might see it put to good use.

the main problem was DX10 being exclusive to vista. If they do the same thing with DX11 and Windows 7 then a similar thing will happen.

Assuming Windows 7 is hated as much as Vista.

Which seems really unlikely. Personally I'd just go with DX10 for now seeing how few are using it.

I think Tessellation and Multi Threating is a quite useful feature to improve the quality and performance of a game. Afaik DX10 comes only with a few optimizations and a pretty small amount of new features. Vista and DX10 was a bad deal for everyone but Win7 and DX11 is not that bad as many people think. The only thing that i can say is forget Vista, completely kill it from your mind and try Win7 its way better than every MS OS before.

Anyway back to topic!
If you really need to update your Computer because of bad performance in mid-age games then you're good to go but if everything runs smooth i recommend to wait until more manufactures have shipped there DX11 Cards. You know because prices will shrink and features will grow ;)

Doubt that there will be any use for dx11 itself, especially when consoles are still dx9 and economic times may not support pc gaming. However hd5870 will be far superior in terms of performance so why the heck not. I guess it will have better price/performance than gtx295.
