Need Help with GPU/Power Adapter.

Postby Lobstar on Wed Oct 21, 2009 5:51 pm

Hi guys, my very first post in this section of the forums. But i need your help badly.
My current setup excists of a 8800gts 640mb GPU and a Intel Duo Core 2 Processor.

And i need an upgrade badly. My only concern is the power supply, i think my current power adapter is 400w and im not sure it will handle the new GPU addition.

So should i upgrade this too? And is there anything i have to think about when it comes to power adapters?

PS: Im kinda of an Nvidia guy, could anyone recomend the best GPU with PhysX support atm? Im having quite some buffet money to spend so i dont wanna cheap out on anything.

depends on the gpu you are getting, and offcourse, the type of psu you have. You should look into the power supply's 12V rail capabilities (amperage) to see how strong it is. (this is mentioned on a table on a sticker on the psu, if it isnt in the manual)
When you are up to your neck in shit, keep your head up high

I somehow doubt your 400w PSU will even have an 8-pin connector.

I'm pretty sure my old PSU was 550w, and it wasn't quite powerful enough for a quad core and a GTX 280. Just do some research, and you should be able to find out what's necessary.

As for what GPU to get, google specifications and reviews for different cards.
