7 sucks

Postby Armageddon on Sun Dec 27, 2009 5:15 am

Ok so I just upgraded my PC from XP to 7 copied all my steam files. And they work! Bit when I tried to run hammer. It was still trying to read the gameinfo.txt from my 'programfiles' but know steam is installed under 'programfiles(x86)'. How do I change the file path of where hammer is trying to find the gameinfo.txt?

You're honestly better off reinstalling the whole thing, I also just upgraded and I regret that now and I can't really be arsed to backup stuff and shit.

Try refreshing SDK, or copy-paste the new directories into the .txt files. If I could do it, so can you.

Open Hammer->Options-> and update paths in your Game configurations/Build programs tabs. This would have to be done for every game though and can be quite annoying.

An alternative would be going to "sourcesdk\bin\orangebox\bin" (for obox games/mods) or "sourcesdk\bin\ep1\bin" (for ep1 games/mods) and locating gameconfig.txt. In there just update the paths and you should be done. Since it's just a copy/paste job it shouldn't take more than a minute

Edit: lol, only just noticed Chop wrote pretty much the same thing :P oh well

maybe its because you have upgraded from a 32 bit OS to a 64 bit one?

My brother just got 7(32bit), we have to put the computer together before we can install it though.

And this is not 7, this is your own fault, of course directories will be screwed up, you copied it from another computer with another version of an operating system. Hell, even if you copied it to another XP computer it wouldn't work right(most likely).

For my brother, I plan on just backing up the games and mods then using the backup on his user, I've done it before. Really only Steam needs to be reinstalled.
Have a question related to modding or something I posted? Something that needs staff attention? I haven't been active lately, but feel free to PM me or message me on Steam(link below)

I didn't know 32bit systems still had the (x86) folders, seeing as those are only for distinguishing between 64bit programs and 32bit
