New computer, with windows 7 64bit, Ati 5870, Intel quad core, 6 GB Ram. And fallout 3 is incapable of being played.
I haver a feeling its something with core setup, or the GFX card. But I don't exactly know what should be done with them.
Every time I try fallout 3, it just freezes and windows 7 says this program has frozen and it just shuts it down. Nothing else. It does it before the background or any audio has loaded, just seconds within loading.
tried changing its compatibility mode to xp and vista, set everything to low, turned off aero, changed the laast three compatibility options on the exe for both launcher and the actual game exe, but nothing. Fiddled with the ATI settings, still nothing. First tried without games for live then with, same problem. Also tried disabling GWL using a program for fallout 3. Put the xlive.dll in the fallout 3 folder, and it showed an xlive.dll error. game still crashed.
It was doing this with the unpatched and 1.7 patch.
Also k-live codecs with FFDshow is not installed, but I installed it later, did not work (fallout 3 was actually already part of the audio/video exceptions in the latest version)
Pretty much done everything, but nothing has changed it from just crashing in the exact same way.
Anyone had this same problem of it just crashing at startup?
Its the only game at the moment I think will not run, source is amazingly perfect and so is crysis.
And a little something about ati, is there anyway to further configure opengl with an ATI 5800 card? I can only see one option for opengl in the control centre, as I got a old tool which needs opengl to run. The 3d is fine but the text overlayed is not visible, thinking it may be some sort of opengl rendering problem.
