Thinking about switching to 7

Postby cohrt on Thu Jan 21, 2010 3:02 am

I'm thinking about switching to 7 & from vista soon. Will I have any problems with hammer or anything else? or will everything work fine.

I'm asking because i've seen people posting problems with things like hammer and TF2

I am on 7 and have had no problems, the only thing I haven't tried fully is compiling models. I have compiled maps and textures fine, probably even better than XP. I think if things are working satisfactory on vista it will be fine on 7.

Well, I suggest a clean install.

CLEAN INSTALL---

-Just copy info that's REALLY IMPORTANT to you onto an external or flash drive for backup

-Pop in CD and do setup with custom install

-After the clean install, all your hard files (programs won't work) should be put into a folder in your system drive. (windows.old)

-Move information over that you want to keep (also helps discard old files)

-Reinstall programs as you need them

-Delete windows.old files + folder when you're done

===============================
WITH STEAM---

Most Source games will work if you just take your old steam folder and over-merge with the new installed one, so you won't need to reinstall all of your games.

The only bug I have is that I cannot upload files, the speed goes real high but I get an error in the end. And I am not the only one with this problem, but noone seems to know how to fix.

So I don't have to back everything up? That will save me some time.
