W7 compile freeze

Postby wood250 on Wed Mar 24, 2010 10:00 am

Hi Lopers-

Just installed W7 64bit and everything is working fine, until i compile in hammer.
The compile starts and then freezes, or shall i say appears to freeze because in task manager its still running and give it 5-10mins it completes- and the map runs fine.
My problem is i like to see the compile window running and see any errors when they happen- Also gives me an indication of time left.
Ive read else where tht this is a problem with W7 (or should i say hammer), and quiet a few other folk are experiencing the same probs.
Has anyone else experienced this? and is there a way round it, without using another 3rd party compiler?

thx

There is no way around it. You can use VBCT instead.

Hmm, I have the same issue but I kinda ignore it, because I can't read out the errors in the log, since it goes so fast. So whenever I compile and it freezes I open the log file located in the same directory as your vmf. It is more up-to-date than the one you see in hammer and so you can even open it while compiling. I read through stuff find the errors, write them down and then reopen the log to see how far the compiling is...

Yeah, I get this error. Really annoying, and I think it also affects Vrad; I never had this many crashes before Win7.

Simply fix;

Well, my hammer doesn't crash. It just doesn't respond until compile end.

And just so we are talking about the same thing: It starts freezing at "finding lightmap sample positions".

Nothing crashes. The way Windows interprets if a program is not responding is different then that of XP. Just let it be and it will finish compiling.

I thought the same thing but turns out VBCT is a piece of shit and won't work for me. There's no fix for it either. Anyway I have a nother batch compiler that I've been sort of a tester for and it works fine. It'll be released sometime over the next few months for those of you who have trouble with VBCT too.

See? VBCT is broken and the person who made it doesn't have the time to fix it or even give someone else the source code for it so they could fix it. You'll just have to deal with Hammer not showing your progress for now or try the method of opening the text file to watch it.
