Help with Direct Sound

Postby ar487 on Tue Apr 20, 2010 7:16 pm

Hey everyone, I've been browsing this site for about a year now and now seems a good time to join.

I am almost done programming a 2D game in C++ but I have put the sound aspect on the back burner. I would like to use direct sound if possible but if there is some better code to use I will.

Please don't link me to another website unless you know the code will compile because I have already tried many tutorials already. If its of any relevance I am compiling in VC 2008. Thanks

EDIT: I know I should have put this in the coding section, sorry

DirectX9. I'm only using dx9 to draw the sprites, everything else is pretty basic.

Damn, I was going to link you to another site, because while I don't know specific code for direct sound, having never really used it, I do know of sites that have always worked for my dx9 coding stuff... On one site though it definitely says this:

Note: DirectSound is being replaced by XAudio2 and will be removed from the SDK in the near future and so should now be considered deprecated.

That new thing would be XACT. Since you haven't actually written any sound code, it's probably a good idea to just go straight to XACT, it may take a little while to learn, but it's probably worth it.

Sounds promising, I supposedly already have the SDK for it, so I'll tell anyone if I get it working.

Actually I just started working w/ OpenAl, I'm trying to make it work right now.
