Just had the dreaded (self-inflicted
) NV4_disp.dll BSOD error. Here's a little guide how to overcome it for the future generations that 'just Google it'.
The story
Installed an Nvidia 6800 to replace my old 6600, installed new drivers, found out my power source sucks, reinstalled my 6600, Windows XP loading screen freeze. F*ck-f*ckity-f*ck-f*ck.
The fix
1. Boot into Safe Mode with Networking
2. Open your desired net browser
3. Google for Driver Sweeper or http://www.guru3d.com/category/driversweeper
3.1. Just let it sit on your desktop for now...
4. Delete your current Graphic drivers (Right click on My Computer > Manage > Device Manager > Display Adapters > you can figure it out from there)
5. Reboot into Safe Mode
6. Run Driver Sweeper
7. Reboot into Normal Mode
8. Get new Nvidia Drivers for your Graphics Card from http://www.nvidia.com
9. Install the Driver
10. Reboot into Normal
11. ???
12. PROFIT!
At least that more-or-less worked for me.
