Possible CPU heating issues?

Postby DrFeelGood on Tue Oct 26, 2010 9:51 pm

Hey guys,

I am puzzled by my recent cpu heating issues.... Heres the scoop...

I built my system about 7 months ago, here are the specs:

- Asus M2N68-AM Board
- AMD 64 X2 4200+ Duel Core CPU (runs at 2.2Ghz)
- 2 GB DDR2 ram
- BFGTech Geforce GT220 with 1GB ram

The ONLY thing I have done to it is yesterday I moved everything over to a bigger case , and now I'm getting CPU heating issues. (currently running at 47C). I pulled my computer back apart, redid the thermal paste between the CPU & heatsink... still had heating issues... went and bought a new CPU, and its still getting hot (48C now). So what should I do? get a new mobo? or what?

Thanks

okay... So what should I look for as being "too hot"? When I go into game it goes up around 65-67C?

I'm not sure. I'm on a laptop so not sure how it'd translate to a desktop. Core temp can hit 85 during heavy gaming though.

Some cases have better circulation than others, though it's hard to tell on beforehand. The cable job inside can have quite an impact too, so make sure it's as tidy as possible. Extra case fans may be worth looking into. Though honestly, 65C during load is pretty safe.

Try using some better thermal paste. And if you dont know what it is... Blame Google Translate xD

Anyways its the paste you put on the cpu to help it get rid of the heat. Its like a connection between the cpu and its cooling fan/ heat sink or whatever its called. Getting a better/bigger case would also help. I have a total of 4 fans in my pc. 1 On the gpu (which only cools the... GPU) and then 3 on the case which brings cooler air and forces hot air out of the cabin. My CPU doesnt go much higher than 40 and ingame its 45-50. The GPU barely hits 37 ingame

The paste is everything, i once did mine wrong, hit 90C during windows stuff only.

also, i run about 75C under load, which is about the Thermal max recommended by most manufacturers, but my laptop lived its first year at 80-90C most of the time, so it will hold up.

otherwise, spend some money on a better cpu cooler.. ;)

I idea at about 37C and my full load is about 42-57C but if cpu hit 80C or higher your doing wrong.
