A great install program...

I've been looking for a program like this for awhile and came across this http://www.sminstall.com/ It'll create a simple easy to use install package for say maps/mods you release... I have the full version and really love it, easy to use and makes the person downloading have to do nothing but install... Plus with cross OS's it automatically will direct the files to the correct program folder locations steam uses... If anyone has a better program list it...

I do not support this list. When mods feel they need to install themselves it's very annoying. I don't want to have entries for mods clogging up my registry, and I don't want to run some shitty installer, when I can just shift delete a folder.

Mods have no dependencies outside of what's in their mod directory, I know know why people feel they have to fuck that up.

I'd rather use my old Visual Basic installers, if I still have them - they are fully customisable and can look great if you know what you're doing

visual studio makes installers for your coding projects. msi installers are the best.

Years ago I released one of my maps as an executable and I was shunned for doing so. Some people are skeptical about installing things from people they do not know. I felt it was an easy way to be sure the files all went to the right place, while others would not even try to install it since it was an executable. Keep in mind this was back before you could embed content into your bsp's...

Now with the ability to embed content and the use of VPK's I do not really see the point in this. That is unless it is for other games and mods.
