A lot of this stuff is going to be bought in retail stores, I know retail stores are a mistake. What kind of price increase will retail stores have compared to online shopping sites like newegg?

What kind of difference will I see in a BFG 7800GTX compared to a eVGA?

If the 4800 X2 is a step down from the FX-55, what kind of performance decrease am I looking at in BF2@max W/16xAF&8xAA? Next generation games like Condemned: Criminal origins?

I don't run IE/Hammer/PS and WoW all at the same time so what IS the best processor on games. Last time I checked the FX-57 was $1,000+.

Right now I run on a P4 2.0GHz(GI), 2x256MB PC2100 RAM(Crucial), FX5200 W/128MB(MSI), 1997 CRT display(Sony)

I won't even go into "BallistX" since evreyone is bent on corsair, will this new DDR2 667 work on the motherboard I have selected? If it works what is the better of it; do games support it?

Personally, I think dual core is the wave of the future, and eventually games will be developed that take advantage of it. Already games are starting to take advantage of the 64-bit system, (new halflife 2 upgrade), and games will also start to use the dual core system. The 4800+ and the FX-55 score very close in benchmarks anyway. Sometimes the 4800+ wins, other times the FX-55 does. I would consider them about equal, except for the fact that the 4800+ will be able to handle dual core software.

the 4800 isnt a step down from the fx 55. its practically two of the things slapped together. at a measly .2GHZ slower than the fx 55, its also easily overclocked for fx 55 speeds. my friend has a 4400 and OCd it to fx55 speeds, no problem.

why the 4800 WILL speed everything up is: while programs arent designed for dual cores yet, Windows XP is. What windows does it divy out the processing power to all the tasks running in the background. so if you have a game or a 3D modelling program open, like me, one core will run that game or program and the other all the background window tasks. its like having two computers, just running one thing on each. and it doesnt just devide the progs in half, it takes the memory and stress levels and does it evenly. so basically, cut the load on your computer in half, and throw it at an fx55. if the fx55 can already handle everything and more without problem, imagine how it would handle half?

hands down to the x-fi.

one of the other most important things here is the case==you must have awesome cooling for your system to work properly. if you dont know how to properly wire and set up cool, have someone else do it. and you may want to look at BTX cases. id reccommend coolermaster, i have a Cavelier, and it is amazing quality.

on that budget, get one 512 mb gtx, and when you have more money, SLI them.
Imagine a world with no hypothetical situations.

I keep adding evreything up and Its seems like it will go over $3,000 when its fully built. I haven't added in firewall software, antivirus, spyware, and all the games Im looking forward to.

-edit dec/23/05-

I was browsing random news for graphics when I came across a line in an artical that wassen't related to the title. A card faster than the 7800GTX 512MB will be avalible in febuary. If this is true then Im going to wait a while. The money required to build my PC isn't all here yet so I will be waiting one-two mones anyways.

"European sites also have this card for pre-order only. Maybe you will be able to grab this card in January but it won't make much sense as Nvidia scheduled a new faster card for February. But as always the choice is yours."

The BFG card will give you a small 5fps boost, but it's worth the mild $50 increase. If you really want to see what the differences are, look it up. Google bfg games scores and then the evga ones. I'm not going to do it for you.

As for gaming speeds on the 4800 X2, it's going to be just a little bit slower than fx55, but not by much. On the same hand though, it's also a little bit cheaper and if you're one of those people who keep AIM or music on with your games, it'll work out real well for you. There's always the off chance that dual core gaming will actually reach us before you end up upgrading your comp, though I doubt it. Never hurts to be prepared though.

As I said before, don't even bother with the 512MB gfx cards, they're so incredibly expensive it'll break you budget with only mild performance gains. if you can wait till feb then do it, new cards provide the biggest boosts.

I will wait for the new cards to come out from Nvidia, as for the FX-57 or the AMD X2 4800+ I will see what the prices are on them in Febuary. I couldn't help but look into my dad's closet and see a radioshack bag with either a computer or a LCD. I am grateful for this but he was stupid to be buying before asking.

Indoor RC hèlo? shure. Time to use it? no. The next RC I get will cost about $2,000. See signature for futher details.

Good thing is, I found an old Radioshack giftcard about two years old. haha   good for 36 months.
