The Pirate Bay Sinks

The Pirate Bay, the worlds largest bit torrent tracker, was raided by police last night who seized all servers, including those to the piratbyran website which hosts no torrents and merly supports the pirate bays activitys in public debate. 2 members of the pirate bay where arrested but later released.

technically there is nothing illegal on their servers. but this is a very grey area of technicality. what is interesting is that the pirate bay holds a certain degree of political power in sweden.

So I heard ... its kind of crazy ...

On one hand, they were more than obviously doing something that by common sense is wrong; blatantly rubbing their wrongess-by-virtue, rightness-by-law in the face of anyone who attempted to pressure them into closing. So in a way its easy to say its deserved.

But what can the law do? Its not subjective. Its black and white; and what they are doing, unless they can dig up some other dirt on them, is by technicality legal.

... quite the situation

No fucking way...piratebay was the best site for metal torrents.

now ill have to resort to either torrentspy, mininova, isohunt, hypertorrent, torrentreactor or any of the other 100's of torrentservers. Life sucks

I think, if they can't find anything illegal, they might come back up at a later date.

What the hell does that mean? Pirating games, software, music - whatever is not OK. You are indirectly hurting whichever industry you're messing with. It's illegal as well. It's something that is impossible to justify - so why take part in it? Albums are not that expensive. So why pirate it? Especially if you are a fan of the band in question? It defies conventional logic.

You make me sad.

The one think i've downloaded which i can honestly justify. Is mystery science theater 3000.

universal refuse to release it again on DVD and the only stuff i can get on PAL is the odd one of two episodes for like £100 or something daft. Frankly by downloading them i'm helping MST3K by keeping their work alive still. Other then that though i agree. I buy my games, music and films.

1.you make me lol.
2.Pirating music in NOT illegal here (the rest is, but that isnt the point).
3.Albums not that expensive? i call 4 hrs of working to earn an album not cheap either. Id rather spend my money on the things life are about (beer/women)
4.The bands i listen to earn enough without my money (eg through concerts), and i really dont care they have to buy a porche 911 because they cant afford a ferrari because i didnt sponsor them.
5.Im not really a fan of any band, but i do buy albums from the ones i do consider myself fan from (system of a down, prodigy, fatboy slim, rammstein). bout two each, the rest pirated. i know, but i think theyve earned enough from me.
6.If id buy all the albums i currently have on my hd i would be poor. I got gigabytes of (omg!pirated!wtf) music, some i dont even listen to, but most i put in a random playlist. Its not like im paying to listen to the radio, so this is basically the same
7.If you want to convince me otherwise dont even bother, you wont succeed

Music artists don't eran taht much money for recording selling, specially because most of it goes to the record labels :P it's the tours and promos that give them money, and they are rich has hell why care?
Plus you'r not stealing anything from them if you were not going to buy the album in the first place, wich i wouldn't because it's to dam expensive :P
I've no sign
