mabufo wrote:If you can't afford the album, listen to the radio. I don't care if the band isn't your favourite. That doesn't make it OK. I don't care that you think the bands that you aren't really a fan of make lots of money; I don't care that you live in a country where this bullshit can slip by; that doesn't mean it's ok.

No one is telling you to buy an album for one song - if that's the problem, maybe you need to rethink your tastes in music. Here's another thought: instead of crying me a river about how you can't afford to buy full albums for a single song - howsabout getting a subscription to itunes, or a similar service?

There are plenty alternatives to your desructive habit, maybe you shouldn't spend all your money on beer and blow up dolls.

The point is that you are blatantly hurting the music industry. Not just the band is at stake here. The people affiliated with the bands are as well. The publisher and their employees, record label people, recording people, the road crew, anybody affiliated with the band is hurting because you and your friends don't feel like shelling out a bit of money to buy an album... So you go on the internet and get it for free - illegally. Good for you, I hope you feel better for yourself.

Thanks to fuck ups like yourself, my hope of opening a record store of my own someday is creeping further and further away from me. Ass Hole.

Was all that crap aimed to me? If so you need to fucking chill, because i'm not one of your friends, and i don't like people talking to me like that!
You do know that some people have bills to pay, and dont earn enough to pay for music right? like i've to pay for my car, plus ensurance, plus gas, plus food. In the end of the month i'm lucky i've enough money to go out with my girlfriend, and you mean that because of that i don't have the right to listen to music? I could buy all the cds from my favorite bands, but that would mean that i couldn't eat for a week!
I don't know how it is where you live but here national cds cost around 25€ and international cds around 50€, i spend 50€ on food each week and 45€ for gas, and i earn 500€ per month!
I've no sign

That doesn't justify theft. I'm not telling you to buy every single CD you see. I'm telling you not to steal them.

EDIT: You can sign up for iTunes as well big guy.

Good point indeed, I mean, if you are NEVER going to pay for a program, you torrent it. So the company doesn't gain/lose any money. Because if it wasnt for torrents etc, you wouldn't buy it. Correct?

There are free equivalents to those programs on the internet. There is no reason to illegally obtain copies of them.

Gimp for example, is a photoshop clone... and You have Gmax for 3ds... There are plenty of others as well. Seriously guys, wtf?

EDIT: As far as my being offensive goes, I don't give a flying fuck. It's because of people like you that I won't be able to open the record store I've always wanted to open. You guys need to realize you aren't just hurting the bands - you are also hurting retail establishments that sell the merchandise. It's like you guys say: Who wants to buy music when you can get it for free? You guys make me sick.

I don't pirate at all. Let alone music. So don't bitch to me about your penny worth dream of opening a record store. Thanks.

I hope thats not the sarcastic type.

I know pirating is wrong. I just wanted to prove the reasons why those people do it.

No I'm not being sarcastic. With my situation - I just can't see how anyone can justify themselves doing it.

I understand, because if people are pirating music then you get less money from people actually BUYING it. For that reason, they obviously aren't going to buy it in the first place.

On the theft side of things, that isnt right at all.

I download tracks of bands I'm not sure I'll like, and buy the albums I know I will like. Downloading some bands has spurred into buying their album that I normally wouldn't.

So where does that leave me in the piracy hatred that is flying around this thread?

I don't dabble in priacy hugely but I've never paid for windows, or office or any software I own, I just buy games.

I know other people do it loads (pretty much like zombo) but that's up to him, I can't say I agree but it's his choice, if he gets arrested tomorrow then so be it.

I don't agree with murder and rape but people still do it on a daily basis, pushing my views onto those people won't stop them. I'm just safe in the knowledge I don't do those things, and so should you be proud of your efforts to support the industry, but I doubt it will collapse overnight.

When VCR's first came out everyone feared it was the end of Cinema, not quite it seems. There is downloading, but nothing beats a proper album with case and artwork etc.

Valid point Blink, the money those bands made from you buying the whole album because you downloaded a song your not sure youd like but turns out you do, then you buy the album, that band would be GLAD for torrenting.

Like i've implied;

Torrenting is bad overall, but in some cases some bands, producers, etc, would be lost without it.

I mean look at demos, why don't they make those cost?

So they can TRY the game, so they can BUY the full thing later on.

Indeed, but the difference here is you can try the whole game.

Plus you'r not stealing anything from them if you were not going to buy the album in the first place, wich i wouldn't because it's to dam expensive :P

True. They only earn a few percent of every record they sell.
