Whats the internet's problem with teenagers?

Postby Olympus04 on Tue Jan 16, 2007 8:13 pm

As many of you may or may not know, I am only 14. Before you take a collective gasp and expel me from this great community, I think I have shown you over the last month or so that I am different from the normal internet using teenager.

When I first started playing online games, I lied and told everyone I was 16. Eventually, I told people my age (12 at the time), and no one expected it.

I can see the problem with pre-pubescent kids using voice chat, and I do admit they sound horrible, but how can you be sure with any fraction of belief that every single bad person on the internet is 12. Everyone that ruins your game, is somehow 12. Or 14 for that matter.

I think it can be easily found that the majority of people who ruin games (hacking, griefing, general lamer), arent 12. And just because someone is 12, or 14, doesnt mean that they are instantly a blight technological society and deserve your hatred, and your expulsion from "Mature" servers.

I know that some if not most teenagers are obnoxious, annoying pricks, but, some of them arent. At least this one.

Please, share with me your honest opinions on this issue.

oh I need to contribute? okay, well most teenagers @ the interwebz suck. Especially CSS players... and errh well BF 2 too actually.

You can't escape em really.
Interlopers seems to be reasonably "clean" though.

Im not sure you fully read the question. Im asking you guys to really take a look and wonder if they really are always teenagers. I know more than my share of obnoxious adults.

I am 14 as well. When i first came to this site I was an immature little teen, but then i soon realized this is no place to fool around. so I eventually got my act together and straightened up. Like I once said on a test paper, age deosnt matter, maturity deos. And how it gets reflected on others older and younger is what those people think of you.

all youngsters will eventually mature in time. They can be annoying, but just ignore them and turn your back the other way.

And besides, some of the older members on here act much less mature then some of the younger members. wont say any names, we can guess a few right off the bat...

I'll be 20 this year and I like to act like I'm 10. :-D Its more or less a hand full of younger kids have ruined it for them all. Like yourself, leading by example is a great way to change this outlook.

And the act has a lot to do with maturity as well, if you have a 12 year old thats out of control and a nut, he is going to do the same thing online.... except he knows no one can do a thing about it.

Hardly any difference in behaviour or maturity between 12 and 17-18 yrs. Its like time stops at those ages as the ice-age we call puberty hits and goes! Then, when 18 turns in, maturity starts growing. For some this takes a few months, for some it takes decennia.

I'm a good example as to just how long it can take. I know I have a LOT of growing up to do, but I also work at it.
