RSI-Syndrome

Postby scratch on Thu Feb 08, 2007 9:01 pm

Dunno if anyone of you have already heard about that, RSI means "repetitive strain injury" and basically describes the consequences of overused muscles, tendons and nerves. See here for a comprehensive description: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Repetitive_strain_injury

The reason why i'm posting this here is because oftentimes people working at computers suffer from this syndrome. It caught me again a few days ago during extensive mapping, i fear i'll have to stall the map for now in order to avoid any permanent damage to my right shoulder muscles / tendons / nerves.

What are your experiences? Are there any exercises apart from stopping what your doing in order to get rid of it? Do you perhaps have any tips regarding mouse / keyboard usage?

get a decent chair, desk and posture, and you are practically immune to rsi.

Exactly what zombie@computer said.

Plus take regular...or irregular breaks. Just don't spend 24 hours straight and you'll be fine (but by 24 hours you'll have other health issues rather than RSI!).

You just have to be observing your bodily feeling (that didnt sound weird at all).

If your hand muscles feel weird, sit differently.

I am sure you can google around a bit and find some stuff. But the most help you can give yourself is taking a break every hour or so and move around.
