Car Problems

Postby super_gun on Sat Apr 28, 2007 3:52 am

I know this isn't enough to justify as it's own thread but I"m pretty scared here. Alright, so tonight me and my buddies took my mom's car to the local mickey dee's. When we were driving home, I was doing a u-turn and a smoked a fucking curb. We quickly noticed that the tire had, indeed, popped. Luckily I was only about 100 yards away from my neighborhood so I slowly drove it all the way down to my friends house and we put the dummy tire on. Now the question is, what should I do? I haven't told my mom and I don't want to because she doesn't have a lot of money and I"m sure she we would be pretty pissed that I got a flat tire on her car. I'm thinking about waking up really early tomorrow and driving the car to Dobbs and seeing what they can do. I"ve only got 60 bucks in my bank account so I"m probably going to have to shut my account but I"m afraid Dobbs will tell me that I will need to change all 4 tires. Should I just make them allow me to buy one tire and change the tire myself, or should I just buy one tire and have them change it, or should I just tell my mom the bad news?

Tell your mom the bad news. It might be bad for you, but she will know what happened and you wont have to worry about secretly changing it.

I'd think she'd appreciate the honesty, and if you tell her you'll pay for it than it she'll appreciate that. I find in these situations is usually better to come clean. I read something about the art of apology once:

First, admit you did it.
Second, apolgize.
Third, make sure she understands you take full responsibility
Fourth, offer to pay for it
Fifth, apoligize again

but do wake up early and make sure you tell her before she has a chance to see it herself!

Honestly in your situation you can only make things worse by lying. I popped the tire the first day on my first car the same way, I managed to hit the curb on the exact spot there was a jagged edge sticking out. Luckily I had a full size spare.

just dont leave the spare on :P those things are only good until you manage to get it to the mechanics to stick a new one on.

that, and she would be pretty pissed to see the next time she had a flat that the spare had a punture in it :?

Theres really nothing "wrong" with the spare, its just another tire, you shouldnt leave it on for long tho because it prolly isnt used as much as the tire on the other side, which will cause an imbalance etc.

Also, you dont have to buy 4 new tires, just two. The point being, the two tires at the front have to be the same, and the two at the back, in regard as to how much theyve been used. So for instance if you popped one of the front tires, get two new tires for the front. Bingo!

(Weird, my *MOM* popped a tired on MY car yesterday. She only wanted to move it a little to one side, and scraped against a couple of sharp stones that are there. Arg!)

Well here's what down. I got up early with the homies and went to my bank, got about 60 bucks out and basically cleared out my bank account. We than preceded to Dobbs in my friends car and left the other car at my bank. We bought the tire (with my friends help, it cost 84 dollars) and than went back to my car to replace it. Once we got the tire on, my mom was already worrying about where I was because I didn't even call her and she was calling up some of my friends. So I went home and told my mom what happened, she was pretty much cool with it all but than when we got in the car again to go to the gas station, we noticed that the passenger door was jammed in and someone keyed the whole side of the car. We think that someone did all this whenever we were getting the tire at Dobbs and we didn't notice it because we were just concentrating on getting the tire on. I don't know what to do now because if I tell my mom she's going to think that I hit like a wall and that's why the tire popped and that's also why the door is jammed, etc. But, in reality, the door was absolutely fine yesterday and was fine this morning. Any advice?

You shoulda told her first thing in the morning...

just tell her, just tell her, just tell her

swiping a wall and getting keyed look tottally different. Unless she's a complete moron she won't think you hit a wall.

Unless of course you DID hit a wall

Looks like you are caught in the snowball syndrome.. since you didnt tell her in the first place and have been hiding it from her, now that you have additional problems the damage gets heaped on even more. If I were you i'd just come totally clean to her and then worry about the repercussions later.

No matter what happens, just remember it won't matter 1, 2, 5, 10 years down the line.

Haha, yeah I know whatever happens, happens. I guess I didn't tell you guys, but when I came home from getting the tire fixed (before I even knew about the passenger side door damage and the keying) I told my mom that her tire popped and I got it all fixed for her. Than last night she noticed the damage when she was out with her friends and she's blaming me for it. I mean, what the hell else is she supposed to think? The tire that popped was the passenger side tire but the damage to the door was NOT caused by the tire popping. I think it was caused while we were buying the tire at Dobbs but we didn't notice it in till we got home.

That sucks. I would only key someone's car if I had beef with them or for revenge. Doing it to random cars is stupid.
On the subject of pranks, these asshole kids keep egging all the cars on our street every fucking weekend. Im gonna camp outside with my potato cannon and blast their car point blank with it. That should deal some nice body damage and make them crap their pants. :D
