BIG STEAM PROBLEM

Postby Chicken64 on Wed Jun 27, 2007 3:10 pm

I'm fairly new to hl2 & these are the problems i face:
First of all, after i installed all the 6 games & started off with css mapping, steam just crashed & when i re-open it, it says 'this program has performed an illegal operation.......' even if i restart my comp several times, it gives the same error!
So i reinstalled steam & downloaded every bit all over again & the connection speed is very slow for a 2mbps connection i have, i get the downloads at 100kbps!!
Now it's taking 40 minutes for scanning a few updates
All i want to do is to just open Valve Hammer Editor to map for CSS & i need to undergo all such problems??
Personally, steam sucks big time
Do you guyz also face the same problems??

No, I love steam. Never have had a single problem with it and without it there's about a dozen games I would have missed out on.

That sucks for you tho! :(

I've never had any problems with steam at all and I love the idea of buying and preloading games from my computer and being able to play them the second they come out. It seems only the people that can't get steam to work are the ones that hate it...

I never had problems with Steam either, seems always like some people are just to stupid to get along with it.

However, concerning your problem. Did you start all of the games? I rather imagine I heard you should do that before starting the SDK.

Or people who try to use it and cant dont like it? Steam is about making stuff easy, and if it cant because its programmed like crap, then offcourse people are going to hate it as it has lost its only function.

I for one hate steam, tho it works fine on my new comp, i still would prefer steam to get some kind of hooking dll so i dont have to start up that stupid menu everytime i want to play a game

Not sure what you mean there? Just get yourself some desktop shortcuts to your games...

I used to hate when you needed to have an active internet connection to use steam and play a game, but its fine now and steam is not too bad.
But it does tend to hog up some resources and internet connection, which just seems that it does not need to do.
