Do you believe in Aliens?

Postby Snownation on Fri Jul 20, 2007 8:24 pm

Do you believe that we are not alone?

Are there other intelligent lifeforms out there that we just have not discovered yet?

What do you think?

Considering how HUGE the universe is and thereby how "many" planets which can support life, as we know it, yes. It might not be intelligent but I believe there is life out there in space. :)

Of course there is other life out there. Same thing that Pingu said, the size of the universe has to have at least some life hidden in it somewhere, intelligent or not. I do believe in UFO's and aliens as well.

We learned some equation in astronomy that is used to calculate this. I think the result was that there is between ten and one hundred thousand worlds with intelligent life in the stars that we can see

the chances that life does not exist outside our planet are extremely slim...
looking at the amount of planets in the universe and seeing the enviroments that life can live in, there must be a planet with the right conditions. intelligent life is another matter tho. when you look at the time scales, humans have only been around for a few blinks of an eye compared to the rest of the universe. chances are that there will be a race far superior to us... the chances of us contacting any other life outside our solar system is next to zero. the closest solar system after our own is about 25 light-years away. at the moment, we are no where NEAR lightspeed, and seeing as it is mathmatically impossible to reach it, or get anywhere close, we are sorta stuck where we are :S

unless we find out how to bend space and time, we aint gunna be traveling past our own solarsystem

uuh, last I checked solar sails would get you good going? It'd take a shitload of time to get speed up however.

I believe that there is other life out there. Like everyone else said, with the size of the universe, you'd have to be crazy to think we're alone.

Sentient life is another question.

Whether we ever encounter life is yet another question.

2 Scenario's:

1: If they find us - Which means they are more advanced than us, since they can travel huge distances. From here is splits again. Either they are friendly and we gain huge technological knowledge from them, or they are hostile and kill us all, that is to say humans haven't killed themselves off before other life does find us.

2: We find them - This is a little less likely since the chances of humans ever having the technology to travel at the speed of light is not likely, but if we ever do reach that level of technological knowledge, and we go exploring through the universe, I bet we would find a lot of life, maybe not as advanced as us, or there still lies a chance that we find a race more advanced than us, in which case the split in scenario 1 happens again.

Unlikely though, well, not at first. I mean, they'd probably be happy (just like us I suppose) if they found someone else besides them in the universe.

-got another idea!

What would you ask them?

(yeah got that from err I dunno, but somebody wanted to ask them if they believe in god(s) aswell... which proves that another dumb species has been found, but that's beside the point.)

What would you ask if aliens got here?

Well what about life not unlike ourselves?

Do you believe of the UFO sightings which have been reported so far? Flying lights in the sky, and little green men beaming us up into spaceships, performing autopsies?

I'm sorry, but listening to professors saying they can calucate this and that. Its just too ridiculous imo.

I don't believe in anything professors say unless they have hard facts.

But yes, of course there has to be some life out there =P
My little theory is that its human race as well :P
Maybe not like here (With our languages and our tech, or maybe more tech). But doesn't seem like a dumb thought to think that there are more humans far away :P Hell, maybe they're thinking the same!

What do we know.. right? =P

That'd be one huge waste of space if we were the only living things out there.

I would ask how old their species is. And how the hell they made it to Earth.

I would ask what kind of beer they got. I am sure they have some bad ass drinks and some funky music.

The universe is massive, with countless planets. Scientists obsess about finding one with liquid water and an atmosphere which could support life, but I think that life adapts to suit the environment, so I think life on other planets could breath different gasses or drink different liquids. or maybe not drink at all.

There is surely life out there somewhere, maybe life here even came from another planet, by bacteria from a meteor, or by aliens leaving animals here as an experiment. Who can really say? To think we are the only intelligent life in the universe is ignorant and self-worshipping, there is probably a civilization out there much bigger and more advanced, maybe colonising multiple planets. If they ever turn up here I think they'll take one look at the British weather and decide to exterminate somewhere else first though. :-D
