Of course there is life outside Earth. Have they discovered the Earth yet? No, I don't think so. Even IF they are sentient, they might be so far away that even technology so advanced that we can't even imagine it might not enable them to find us. Then again, the universe is old. Humankind exist in our form for about 20,000 years? Now, there can have been a huge amount of cultures in the billions of years the universe does exist ... and so on

We'll never have the time or money to explore space if we continue killing each other. Darn religions.

(I can't believe you guys seriously think there's aliens out there. You guys need to take a break from playing Half-life every once in a while. )

The odds that we are the only sentient life in the cosmos is so fractionally small, scientists can't make a calculator screen large enough to fit in that many zeros. They just can't do it.

I find that most people will admit the strong possibility of the existence of other beings, but are generally disbelieving and critical of reports and stories about sighting and abductions. Which I think is only right and proper.

There are archaeologists who believe that man was created by an alien species. They see the powers attributed to the various gods as comparable to the advanced technology of these ET beings. There are many mysteries about anchient cultures and many wonderful myths, there are also some amazing depictions of things that look, well, odd. It is also a mystery how the very first civilisations appeared with advanced knowledge of the stars and the solar system.

There are even people who believe that our government is in contact and trade with ET beings, and are constructing underground bases and doing lots of strange experiments for purposes unknown. Further still there are some people that believe these aliens are a reptillian type creature, called the Chitauri who exist in the lower 4th dimension and(wherever that is).

People believe lots of strange things, mysteries point to strange things. But we can't quite understand them because they're so mysterious and strange.

True, for the aliens we are also aliens. Unless we were brought here by an ancient human race that died and brought us here for savety and survival of the human race.

We came here mysteriously on the planet. Whilest the other animals were still developing suddenly WE appeared and we began to grow smarter every day. Suspicious, not?

What the? It's not logical that we came from another planet. That life did (singlecell organisms) is a possibility though.

ixin, you made me laugh. You're sad.

Mango; As far as ancient societies go, what we don't know does not point at "aliens", it points to poor recording by the civilization in question. The egyptians documented almost everything out of importance in their pyramids and on their monuments.

And what the hell does "People believe lots of strange things, mysteries point to strange things. But we can't quite understand them because they're so mysterious and strange." mean?

Lastly, as has been said, life is out there. There is most probably also intelligent life, and lots of it, if we're going to find it or not is another question.

a little short there. try roughly 7 million.

if i met a sentient ET i would ask it what it's species' equivalent to Guns, Germs, and Steel is.

In our form, I meant like, the first cultures we know about, I think I am quite right with 20,000 years then. I think the oldest human style thingys were about a million years old or so, yes, ok.

However, reports and mysterious about our governments trading with aliens etc are ... bullshit. Do you know why? Because first, you just have to look at the people telling those stories. They are weirdos all the way. Second, when has the government be really able to keep something secret? Never. Third, as I mentioned before, the people who believe in present contacts and sightings of aliens are weirdos, and a lot of their so called evidence is fake ... ok, ALL of their evidence. A lot of clouds look like UFOs, etc. Do you really think that we would discover a UFO, if the aliens are so keen to keep hidden from us? I should think not ...

Believe in extraterristical life? Yes. At our point of time? Possible. Sentient life? Maybe, perhaps in the far past, perhaps a hundred of sentient life forms in different galaxies, never to know each other. Super intelligent aliens watching us, making experiments? Yeah, most likely. Hollywood tells us ... lol

And man developed like any animal. We didn't just pop up. I think in America intelligent design is on the run, eh? Does explain a lot ... *sigh*

To Paraphrase Pratchett.

"The universe is so massive it's big enough to hold just about anything and so eventually it does.

Humans think the idea of a giant turtle floating through space is too amazing to happen. This proves to me that humans aren't designed for thinking as they find meer size an incredible thing and the original purpose of the brain was just to cool the blood.

The fact that there is a turtle alive anywhere in the universe is the astounding thing."

The chances of us being alone are very slim. If the universe is infinite that it is impossible for there not to be live out there. Contacting them is different/ The size gap isn't that important. America was too far for anyone to travel but we did it. Humans have a habit of setting themselves and an impossible goal and then breaking it. Humans will develop faster then light travel. Be it that they discover our maths is wrong and you can achieve lightspeed or that they find away around it by compression of space.

The problems come finding where they are and then communicating with them. Remember this is an entirely alien species completely devorced from Earth. THey probably wont even communicate audibly they wont look anything like us. Forget star trek where everyone looks at least slightly human. For all we know they're microscopic and look just like bacteria we could land on another planet and thing a sentient being is jsut a dumb animal because it looks like a 5 legged fish goat and isn't able to communicate with us.

I think there is life out there, but I don't think there are UFO's, just experimental projects from the USA and lunatics with frisbees.

Well, let's hope evolution is due. We'll find out eventually.

Oh, and Kodox, we'll see who'll be laughing when the aliens squirt you for not believing.

let it first be said; ZOMG ALIENS!

now thats out of my system, yes and no, I believe the probability of there being other life (maybe quoted above, but then times that by the number of planets out there); but I don't believe in making any form of contact, it simply goes in the 'too hard pile' this thread could get into some reasonably heavy slightly off topic discussions if we aren't careful.

Although if there ever were to be some form of contact made, i'd be afraid we'd screw it up some how, for example my home country (New Zealand) was colonized poorly, the brittish settlers traded blankets for Hectares and hectares of land then sold it to other settlers for millions. pretty much take any other country that was colonized (with native humans already there) and you'll see how people tried to screw them over. That almost makes me not want us to make contact in a way. meh, those are just my views on the topic

Indeed. Tho theorecically, the universe is only max:

2* lightspeed * time_since_big_bang

in diameter. Which is 'far' less than infinite  Still, somewhat larger than say your hometown.
