As Star Trek is human, not very intelligent (sorry to all fans) fiction, I don't believe something like this might exist. There may even be spacefaring species, MAYBE even faster than light, but universe is so vast that even technology better than anything we can ever dream of would enable them to discover Earth and such.

I don't believe we're being watch or have been visited though.

Doesn't mean, Sathor, that they can't discover us by chance.

Not saying they have, as I highly doubt that.

I don't say it is impossible. If the universe is infinite, impossible IS impossible, some things are just very unprobable, you are right, yes. And I think it is, taken the universe is infinite, still quite unprobable to discover other sentient species. Perhaps we might discover a planet with some kind of life in five hundred years or something, yes, I believe that is possible. Perhaps not very probable, though.

Concidering one of jupiters moons (it is jupiter right?) has water incased in it, the probabilty that we will find cells is quite high.

Yes, the Jupiter moon Europa has an approx. 100 km deep ocean under a 10 to 20 km ice crust. Quite deep, aint it?

If the natural laws are true in the hole universe, then speed can´t be faster than light.

You can travel faster than light by travelling different routes than light ... scientist are quite sure some kind of "wormholes" exist, etc ... but quite unlikely you could travel through them, though.

What I want to express is that just because we THINK we know the natural laws, that is not really true. We have THEORIES, nothing more. There will be important discoveries over the next decades, just like in the recent decades, and some of the laws we think are universal might be wrong, or only partly true.

on the moons:

i just heard on NPR (national public radio - our best attempt at a bbc style broadcast) that our solar system in fact has 3 moons with water or water vapor.

one moon of jupiter, one moon of saturn, and one of pluto.

on the moon of pluto, radioactive decay is thought to be keeping some areas of ice warm enough to be slushy or to release small amounts of water vapor.

another note of interest: we've discovered a handful of planets that are thought to be the right distance from their star to support water and life. for instance: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gliese_581_c

Interesting find.

Perhaps we are ready to migrate there.

Maybe in the future, I think it'll be odd to have another globe to study history of :/.

The universe is too perfect to not allow it. It seems like everything else is in favor of life, why wouldn't there be a way for them to interact? Science is constantly discovering new things. People used to think the world was round. Now we know better.

Just because you can't have a velocity of greater than the speed of light doesn't mean you can't traverse a distance in less time than light would take.

Buuuut.....I still contend that you can move faster than light so long as you have never previously been moving slower than the speed of light.

I am positive there is plenty of sentient life in the universe. It's a matter of probability.

I doubt we're anywhere close to another sentient race, though, and I also doubt that any of them are aware of us in the slightest.
