I am positive there is plenty of sentient life in the universe. It's a matter of probability.

Its not legal to talk about probability in an unbounded situation (or one where bounds are not known). Just think of it

1) we dont know any aliens
2) the chance of there being other lifeforms is tiny. tiny times infinite=100% chance there are other lifeforms

3) these lifeforms are not lifely to find us. Chance of other lifeforms being as technologically advanced, wanting, and able to find us are very tiny times infite = also 100%. If space is infinite, and we would be allowed to use probability in an unbounded situation, we would have already met an infinite amount of aliens

ACTUALLY we can use probability, and there is already a method for doing this. It's called the Drake Equation.

Ah yes the Drake equation. I forgot all about that, looked at it now and i had no idea there was a wiki page on it, thats cool. Its true though, even without equations of such. There is in fact so many star systems, and planets within those star sytems that are or might be ideal to contain life in it. That doesn't mean they are going to attack us or grow up hoping to concur us like all of the movies explain but in fact might be less intelligent as we are or even smarter. In fact they might already know about us, but might not be a violent race or even plan for war. Quite interesting when you think about it.

Even if they did not want a war, I would suspect the response and fear of humans would unfortunately drive some countries to attack the unknown.

Its a complex thought really, would the Human Race combine as one and forget about such pathetic religious squabbles and war amongst our own race as a whole?

Or would they just nuke everyone and everything. The unfortunate thing is some humans that are in a power situation are simply stupid in my opinion.

and even in that formula you need to speculate on 99% of the numbers you put into it. Nice for spending spare time, but, offcourse, allmost complete bullocks.

I definitely believe there is life out there. It actually really saddens me that I probably won't be alive to ever see it.

We know 3 out of 7 variables and using very small probabilities for the other two always produces a number of at least 2.
Of course, it's not perfect, but it does show us the odds are that there is at least one other intelligent race among the stars. (besides dogs and dolphins)
