The idea of a sub forum sounds like a good one, and will help to expand the community

 I think it's a great idea, as it gives Interlopers longevity and more of a roadmap and allows the community to expand without being chained to Source. Let's face it, Source continues to get a little long in the tooth while the new kids U3E and Crytek are being big show offs and getting more industry licensing deals and be taught more frequently at art schools. It would be helpful for modders who want to learn the new engines so their technical skills have a degree of applicability that I don't they really would get from an engine like Source, which is infrequently licensed. With a sister site, 'lopers wouldn't get diluted like I feel mapcore is alot of the time. It's an amazing place for critiques from industry professionals, but sort of sucks as a community.

Also, regarding the concerns about the dearth of tutorials for the UEd4(engine v3, editor v4), the reason Interlopers became so popular is because of the the site's free flow of information, and the fact that more experienced users could post tutorials and newbies could come here looking for answers. It didn't start out as the most knowledgable site on the Source engine, and it was through it's users that the large number of tutorials now exist, and under the same idea I think an Unreal3 too (and maybe even a crytek section too)

I think a sister site with interlopers-quality tutorials is a great, great idea.

I support it!
Strangely Delicious.

I've made some stuff in the old unreal engine and know the basics well enough to create some base tutorials. I'll be upgrading my rig soon so I'll be able to make use of the new engine more, it runs on my PC just not at its best. Fine for tutorial creation.

I would love if lopers became a more general editing site - like game-artist.net but being more focused like lopers currently is.

Lets not get too over our heads though, definitely make a UT3 section but don't expand too quickly.

If we can give a hand full of tutorials to start us off that would be great.

There is soon to be an interlopers sister site/sub-section for Unreal3.

Great idea indeed. just bought a copy of UT3 for the engine.
downloaded some tuts but didn't start yet.
as i see it every serious mapper has to take a step into the UT3 engine, and with the quality of mappers here at lopers, I'm sure amazing stuff would pop up if the forum supported UT3.

What do you guys think?

I am so up for this that I would be willing to write one or two tutorials on the basics of unreal mapping to get the ball rolling, but I agree that we need some people who can document the more advanced stuff.

prehaps you could announce the site on other forums like 3d buzz, and make a short request for tutorials.

Well as we as a community learn we will be able to create more advanced tutorials. I don't think we need a huge amount at the start. If somebody wants to know something we try and figure it out and write a tutorial if it seems like a common thing.

Seeing as you've picked this discussion up again I will add that there are plans for an Unreal site within interlopers. However I have a few other things i want to do on interlopers first before that development begins.

Also, whilst of course everyone is welcome to write tutorials for the Unreal section i must mention i have already written and submitted some to Blink covering the basics, including an explanation of the interface, the generic browser and everything needed for construction of a 'first room' environment including adding models and lights. Also i think Esj is writing some up concerning more in depth discussions of modelling for Unreal.

Thought i'd mention this incase we all end up writing about the same thing ;) Ill be doing some on more advanced topics also once the site gets rolling.

Well I won't write anything till the thing is released so I don't just repeat what others are saying.
