global warming has allways been followed by global cooling, sometimes(most if im not mistaken) due to large icemasses melting and cooling down important water streams like the golf, which basically warms europe.
This time global warming would appear to be stronger than every before, thus we are possibly looking at an ice age sooner than would normally be expected by looking at the earths history.

It is and allways has been a simple matter of time.

Global warming, Global cooling, acid rain, massive solar storms, lots of predictions but nothing's really happening...

pfft, could use a little action around here though. A 300 ft wall of ice would do wonders I reckon.

You are going to destroy the world if you continue doing whatever it is you are doing, please stop now.

:-D

On a more serious note, nowadays I can only chuckle whenever I see a new report on something like this. There are too many reports that are not purely "scientifically" motivated or are otherwise biased. I know one thing though, and that is that polluting is bad, for us, and already now not in the distant future. I dont get why people only now go all crazy with demanding to lower co2 emissions everywhere because theres the chance that it might cause global shit storms, when theres *already* damage to *us* being done by pollution in general. Like reaper47 said.

It is, at least here in Europe.

[entering scientist mode]

The hot climate in Europe is caused by the North Atlantic current. It brings hot water from around equator up here. If you look at a map, you'll see that New York lies at the same latitude as Spain, so imagine what it would be like without it.

However, this current is quite fragile. If the north pole melts, all the fresh water will interrupt the current, and eventually, it will dissapear. And there you go, Spain will have NY-weather, and Scandinavia will be inhabitable.

[/scientist mode]

Personally, I don't care if people don't believe in it or not, if someone told me that I was going to destroy the world if I continued doing whatever I was doing, I would have stopped immediately. Just my two cents...

On the other hand, acid rain ftw!

Wasn't that in day after tomorrow? (what you just said)

Still, some pollution is just unnecessary. Global warming is just a natural progress, I heard. I mean, Earth was warmer when the dinos still were alive. So, the world cooled, and now it is just getting warmer again. Of course, it is sad so many animals die out, but there are more reasons then the actual warming. It must be rather the general human dominance and pollution.
On the other hand, a complete species died out with the dinos, without any human doing something wrong. A new ice age will certainly come after a more serious warming ... nothing is forever.

Yes, it was. Almost everything that happened in TDAT, can happen for real. Almost. The world wont freeze in 7 days, and the American president will never admit that he made a mistake, but apart from that, the scientific stuff wasn't that far-fetched.

And just for the record: stfu, TDAT was a great movie.

Yeah well I'm not so sure about that huge tidal wave being related to global warming nor the super tornadoes... it is a bit farfetched.

basically, we are all right... in one way or another.

yes the earth is naturally heating up (and then cooling back down), as it has done for millions of years, that does not mean its the only reason.
we ARE pumping crazy amounts of CO2 into the atmosphere and it IS haveing an effect on the planet. The earth is a very delicate thing, when there are small changes, it can result in a HUGE change.
the earth is warming up faster than it should and this is going to have bigger effects on the world.

also, do you really want all that crap breathed into your lungs? i live in london and you can actally taste the fumes in the center of it and on moterways. if im wrong and we arnt affecting global warming, i still dont want all this crap in the air!

Well, down here in Texas it does get over 100 every summer... I for one could use some snow :P

TDAT was a great movie, but the processes shown in the movie would take more than a hundred years - or even many many decades more, I am not quite sure.
