For me I favor Obama. I feel lucky that I go to college in Iowa (the first state to nominate representatives every election for those that don't know) so its a hot-spot for all the presidential-hopefuls. I had the opportunity to go to the speeches of Edwards, Obama, McCain, Clinton, and Romney (*shudders at Romney*) and had to opportunity to ask almost all of them a question or two first-hand.
First off, I just want to clarify that I think our biggest crisis is the environment (not just global warming, but dumping in the oceans, pesticides, mercury levels, all that fun crap) and that that is a urgent issue that needs to be addressed as soon as possible. Now I'm not a tree-hugger, but as a student in atmospheric science its allowed me to take a critical look at our planet and its current disposition, and determine its trends and the effects on the world if the trends continue; so far the trends are showing negative repercussions.
In my chance to talk with the candidates, I found Obama being the most progressive towards steering away from conventional fuel sources and pushing for better, renewable sources. Though I also liked Edwards as he wanted to run the White House with the least influence from corporate conglomerates, he sadly didn't make the cut. However, if Obama were elected, it would symbolize a good step of progress in our country (hopefully the symbolism will carry over into action) as he would be the first president that wasn't an old white guy.
