USA 2008 Elections

Postby Mr. Happy on Tue Sep 30, 2008 8:13 pm

Hi guys,

I'm making this thread to encourage every citizen of the USA who will be 18 or older on Nov. 4th to vote in the elections.

There is alot at stake, with the economy, the two wars, etc.

I'm not going to try and tell you who to vote for in this post, though if you wan't my opinion you can ask :D
I don't care who you vote for, just that, if you can vote, you do.

You can find out about registering at many places, here are a few where you can have a form generated for you, or find out where to go:

http://www.justvote.org/registration?gc ... xwodIjz3Dw
http://www.rockthevote.org/

There is going to be alot more on the ballot than just the presidential candidates. Many congressman and others, as well as (possibly) ballot measures in your area will be on there.

If you've ever complained one way or another about the government, here is a chance to influence it in a major way.

If you'd like more information about the presidential candidates and their parties, here are a few resources:

McCain:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McCain
http://www.johnmccain.com

Obama:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Obama
http://www.barackobama.com

Bob Barr (Libertarian Candidate):
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob_Barr
http://www.bobbarr2008.com

Cynthia McKinney (Green Candidate):
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cynthia_McKinney
http://votetruth08.com/

Democrat:

Republican:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republican ... ted_States)

Libertarian:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Libertaria ... ted_States)

Green:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_party

I'll update this post with more sites later.

Anyway, VOTE!!! (if you can)

I got my voter registration card in the mail a few days ago.

I'm thinking you may have done it on purpose, but you didn't include

www.barackobama.com

and

www.johnmccain.com

You click the "issues" tab and you can see how each candidate actually feels on the issues, instead of what your friends tell you.

Obama, America isn't ready for him - but to be honest it would be nice to see this happen, interesting to say the least, black president of the US, one can only imagine.

I'm not an american, so I can't vote but gl+hf.

From the McCain website

Gun control is a proven failure in fighting crime.

right, do these people ever look to Europe?

also, against abortion (again...) any republican above the age of 50 with a progressive attitude?

I'll be 17 when the election happens, so I can't vote. But if I could, I think I would vote libertarian. The way I see it, California is going Democrat anyway, so you might as well try to get the Libertarian Party acknowledged so they can be included in the debates in four years. If I lived in a swing state, then I would probably vote McCain, because he's the lesser of two evils in my opinion (though not by much).

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the incidence of petty crime much higher in Brittain than it is in the US?

Can't quote my sources because I don't remember them or know if they're right.

I think that each district should have a vote, rather than each state, but ultimately I wouldn't trust the general populace to elect the leader of the free world.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Federalist_No._68

This is reflected in [Hamilton's] later fears about the types of people who could potentially become President. He worries that corrupted individuals could potentially be elected president, particularly those who are either more directly associated with a foreign state, or individuals who do not have the capacity to run the country.

The only wasted vote is one for a candidate you don't believe in.
Remember that.

Well I believe that both candidates have good ideas that would help the country, and both have some shitty ones that would harm it. I feel the same way about Bob Barr, so a vote for him would still be the lesser of multiple evils.

Updated first post with McCain and Obama sites, and this bob barr fellows site :)
