Well they claim that this will help speed the development of next gen features and help bridge the format gap between packages.

If that is even half true than I guess this could be a good thing.

Just imagine, the day that SOMETHING besides 3d studio can view and edit a .max filetype. Then imagine XSI being able to open up .max. I'm getting goosebumps just thinking about it :)

I'm number 535 :D

But really, for anyone who uses XSI, you should let Autodesk know that there is still a dedicated userbase.

Isn't this basically a monopoly? Kinda like Microsoft?

Sure there are other options, like Linux and Macs, but in the end most use Windows.

Is that pretty much the case for Autodesk now? 3DS and Maya and XSI are the mainstream modelling apps, as far as I know. Does Autodesk have to pay a yearly monopoly fee now like Microsoft? ^_^

well I hope Autodesk does really well now :(

Otherwise they might dissolve my beloved XSI. Maybe some of our 1 trillion in bailout money can go to them? Just to keep them feeling generous.

Autodesk as a company is going to do very well now, so no need to worry about that. Hopefully they'll take things from Max and Maya and incorporate them into XSI, so it's not all bad. I'd love to see pelt mapping in the next version.

I still don't like Autodesk, but I still love XSI, and it'll take a lot more than a buyout to change that. Let's just all hope they don't merge the three programs and create an abomination... MaXSIya!

The horror!
