This type of flu is a completely new type of virus, There is at present no vaccine and such a vaccine can only be developed when the specific strain has been identified ,and it would then take several months to produce.

Jeeves wrote:Well that will surely just add to the hype because people don't wan't to hear that there is no vaccine, I concur, this has been blown way out of proportion; the media seem to have exploited this 'pandemic' and incited mass hysteria.

Jeeves wrote:Yes theoretically it could mutate, but as you said it's very unlikely that it would mutate to such an extent that it would be classed as an epidemic. The new H1N1 strain originated in pigs, as they are highly susceptable to strains of influenza that are endemic in other species such as birds and humans. Thusly it is much more likely that if the virus was to mutate, it would happen in pigs as multiple strains of influenza could possibly swap genes and yes; produce some highly contagious drug-resistant variant of influenza.
Humans being only susceptable to some strains would probably not cause the virus to mutate as the different strains would not be able to exchange genes.
It's all being completely overhyped, it's very unlikely that any new mutation will occur.

90 people get the swine flu and everybody wants to wear a mask, a million people have AIDS and no one wants to wear a condom.
