An under-appreciated part of British culture & history.

Can I assume that you mean we have a Parliament to deal with government etc instead these days?

The whole point of "the Queen's government" seems dated to me now.

Pomp and ceremony, while being a big source of tourism is very alien to most British people in my opinion.

The days of the best warrior becoming king are over, now it's just the next kid in line...

I do believe Bill Bailey said it right: non-elected sponges.

Does tax money really go into the monarchy in Britain? I always thought the royal family was just sort of a ceremonial thing. Sorta like a celebrity of tradition.

No matter what the royal family really is, it's always seemed pointless to me.

If it's like in Belgium, you have taxes for all the royal family...so yes, you pay for them, for they child and little child...really pointless imo.
A lots of countries show that monarchy is currently outdated! So yes...perhaps an expensive and unnecessary tradition.

Some days I wish we'd have a monarchy. I'd rather have one competent leader than 535 incompetent tyrants (or 300 million if pure democracy is your thing).
