Don't know.
I do not believe in God, in the sense that I do not believe in an invisible man in the sky that will send me down to fiery pit of pain and torture if I displease him, or if I was not dunked in water as a baby, or a billion other reasons.
The idea of Heaven/Hell is a little bit iffy - even the most bloodthirsty person will find a way to rationalize what they are doing and excuse themselves. (Look up Crusades)
I believe in science, but even science cannot explain everything.
I do not believe the universe to be so cut-and-dry as to be divided between faith and materialism; atheism and religious conservatism/extremism are both extremes that espouse their own 'absolute' truths. Think about it, is there really an absolute truth out there that is true in all possible cases? Even gravity behaves differently given the right circumstances.
Honestly, I think the American Indians had the right idea - just live in harmony with nature and one another. (Whether that means to experiment with sex and drugs like a hippie, that's up to you.)
The sheer amount of philosophies, religions and religious sects is evidence that none of us know what the hell happens. I am trying to live my life, have fun, and, maybe along the way, find out what it's all about. If not, hey, I lived a good life.
Live and let live. Don't worry about death so much.
