What comes after death? Vote then discuss!

Postby Jangalomph on Tue Jun 30, 2009 1:04 am

Death is an unstoppable force upon humans and other living species alike..
I think that death is death. Theres no other explaining it. It doesn't change our lives as we know them, it ENDS it. Whether or not there's anything after is known only to the dead. :P

But all in all, I think the fact of dieing sucks, but then again just another way to end us completely for ever..

And i believe that there is no afterlife.. just.. nothing.

I can just see the good ol' atheist religion debate destroying this thread eventually...

Spectator mode. You get to fly around invisibly and see what everyone's doing. Then you respawn.
Respawn time is dependent on total lifetime XP. XP is earned for doing good deeds.

I voted: "Nothing."

Just because I doubt anything happens after death does not mean I am in any way afraid of my own, eventual death.

I'm sick of people with the ideology: "It doesn't really matter what my life is like or what I do here, because my second life with God will be GOLDEN DELICIOUS. And you, you horrible atheist, shall burn in Hell for eternity for thinking with your brain and doubting 100% certainties." It is 100% certainty and smugness that will lead one to a wasted life.

My Magic Beliefs Rule:

I think that people can believe anything they want as long as they don't force their views onto me or do anything I classify as 'evil'. (evil being anything that is detrimental to my idea of a perfect world)

Nothing.

I think I'm just going to that same place before birth. Of course its freaky thinking that when you die you have nothing. Its hard to imagine not being conscious, but at least you can make a difference while your here and pass on your genes.

Very easy to see why some people will believe in an afterlife, its a very comforting idea but unfortunately I don't think such a product exists. Its like a 50's ad promising a time machine if you subscribe to a comic for 5 years and you will receive it at the end but when it finally arrives you realize its just a chunk of plastic.

Not that I'm being pedantic, but you guys do realise where you were before your birth don't you?

For me, I don't have a clue what is after death, so I'll just wait and find out.

Today, young men on acid realize that matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, that we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream and we're the imagination of ourselves.

- Bill Hicks speaking the goddamn truth

we return to universal consciousness, losing ego but not being

When I die, my body will explode into tiny fiery gibs, and an image of a Nascar will appear, I will then commence burnouts, wave a checkered flag, tap dance, high five my family and friends, and angels, Then I will commence operation salvation, then I will shake God's hand and be like "thank you thank you thank you!" then I will see Jonah and be like "LOL YOUR NOTHING BUT WHALE BARF FOOL HA!"

I don't want to rip on any believers or anything but when they say, "You can't prove it won't happen, you have no evidence."

Well, its true I can't really say they are wrong and I have the right answer. Its hard to prove a negative (Well, not hard... Its a stupid argument setup in such a way that you can't officially disprove something because there is no evidence... Which pretty much proves it doesn't exist right there) but there is one thing I am sure about.

I have no memory's of a life or conscious being before my own, so I am already certain that this state of nothingness does exist, we've all experienced it. This is a state we were all able to observe because we are now conscious. Out of all the ideas about where you go once you die nothingness is the only one we all know and can be sure about because we have all been there.

Truth is that none of us know but the best theory I've heard so far is that 'you' just ceases to exist. Therefor I voted 'nothing'

I don't think that it's the end... That would seem meaningless... I've seen/experienced a few things to make me doubt the end of it all is at "death".

It reminds me of a quote I head at a loved one's funeral recently... It drew a connection between death and a boat going out to sea. As the boat shrank from sight and eventually disappeared on the horizon, it was not gone. It was merely on it's way to somewhere else, where it would fade into view for another group of people.

Interesting topic.

Don't know.

I do not believe in God, in the sense that I do not believe in an invisible man in the sky that will send me down to fiery pit of pain and torture if I displease him, or if I was not dunked in water as a baby, or a billion other reasons.

The idea of Heaven/Hell is a little bit iffy - even the most bloodthirsty person will find a way to rationalize what they are doing and excuse themselves. (Look up Crusades)

I believe in science, but even science cannot explain everything.

I do not believe the universe to be so cut-and-dry as to be divided between faith and materialism; atheism and religious conservatism/extremism are both extremes that espouse their own 'absolute' truths. Think about it, is there really an absolute truth out there that is true in all possible cases? Even gravity behaves differently given the right circumstances.

Honestly, I think the American Indians had the right idea - just live in harmony with nature and one another. (Whether that means to experiment with sex and drugs like a hippie, that's up to you.)

The sheer amount of philosophies, religions and religious sects is evidence that none of us know what the hell happens. I am trying to live my life, have fun, and, maybe along the way, find out what it's all about. If not, hey, I lived a good life.

Live and let live. Don't worry about death so much.
