If you believe in superstitious crazy stuff, then you're crazy. Regardless of whether you "believe" in evolution or science.

Well from what I've personally heard, you have to fully believe in the book to be a christian. Guess I'm wrong on that. And the bible doesn't support evolution and science exactly.. :o

Its a moot point really, considering most of this community is atheist, there is no point of being the minority in a conversation like this, I can't really change any of your guys opinions anyways, so carry on guys. :?

You could always join the majority. We are, in this rare case, the correct majority after all.

I believe in life after death and that the actions you make in this world will effect your internal life in heaven or hell. I believe that there is a god who created this world, but does that make me insane or crazy to believe so?

Sorry... but the answer is yes. You believe in something that is irrational and not real.

People were like, "Youz trollin'!" and I'm like, "I'm not trollin!"

If you believe in a reality that defies reasoning and isn't based on empirical evidence, then you are delusional. It doesn't really matter what the nature of that belief is.

There's a difference between claiming to be a long dead French dude and trying to seek an answer to life. No need to be so close minded that you can't understand that some people just have belief, it's not a matter of evidence etc. but belief that this life isn't as meaningless as some claim.

At least try to understand, calling someone who believes in religion crazy is very ignorant.

@smurft - please understand, we aren't trying to troll you, or disrespect you. But the truth is, if you genuinely believe in a god, then you can fall under the category of delusional.

We honestly try to be as kind as we can about it, but sometimes it can be frustrating to those who don't see it, and we may sound harsh.

Trying to group atheists is often comparable to herding cats, as we are only united by a lack of something. But if we share one thing in common it's a craving for understanding based on evidence, and bring reality back into people's lives. We may ridicule, mock, despair at, and in some cases actually dislike what you believe in, but we try never to do that to the people involved. (Here I should put: unless you are incredibly fundamentalist - I will not deny I have trouble not hating someone like Jerry Falwell/Pat Robinson/etc etc etc. But I try not to.)

And now for a little Dawkins smack down, summing up some of what I have said. Like me, he doesn't mean to hurt the questioner, he's just being honest.

This video is particularly badly named.
'English as tuppence, changing yet changeless as canal water, nestling in green nowhere, armoured and effete, bold flag-bearer, lotus-fed Miss Havershambling, opsimath and eremite, feudal, still reactionary Rawlinson End.'

Oh my... here we go...

There is also a difference between trying to seek an answer to life and believing in a magical man in the sky who sent himself, as his son, to die on a hunk of wood, to pay a debt on behalf of all the people on earth (except the gay ones), even though that debt was imposed by the man himself.

Like I said, delusion is delusion. I'm sorry you take offense to that fact, but people often respond that way when they are faced with the truth that there is no reasonable basis for what they believe.

I was actually a Christian once. I've seen both sides - far from closed minded ignorance I'd say. What I would say IS closed minded and ignorant: Thinking that without god (or whatever your belief is) that life is meaningless, and further that atheists feel that life is meaningless. On the contrary, life is all that much more valuable and precious to us. We don't believe in a mystical second life, so we best be making this one count.

BTW, from a literal standpoint, the meaning of life is procreation. Life begets life - it's merely a cycle. What's important is what you CHOOSE to do with that life.

See, for me, when i was a christian, i found every one else delusional. Now that I'm atheist, i find any one that isn't atheist delusional.. its just what i find rational at the time given.
