Time to GTFO?

Postby Jeeves on Wed Aug 05, 2009 5:13 am

Fairly recently I've been thinking about the Uk and life here in general. England has it's fair share of problems, and im wondering if there realy is anything thats worth staying here for, and if the quality of life is significantly better in any other countries?. It would also be especially interesting to hear the points of view of other brits concerning your future here. Also I hear Australia is nice, would any australians care to share there opinions?.

Every country and area has it's own little share of problems. Unless you've got the money to afford it, you'll probably always have some sort of problem with where you are :/

Great, just heard that my friend is going to move to England in 2 weeks^^

I don´t have that much experience about other countries when it comes to living in them but I can tell you that, Sweden sucks these days. And there is too many problem to write them all down here but you could go to our neighbour countries beacuse it seems that they are standing pretty well these days exept the economic thing.

I've always thought Ireland seems like a nice place to live? Perhaps just on the outskirts of Dublin would be ideal. Get the luxuries of the city but still be away from the noise. Just my opinion. And yes I have actually been to Ireland. England seemed like a decent place when I went there except everything was expensive. I had heard from locals that living there was expensive too. Especially houses. As a general rule of thumb, I suppose, small island nations or just any small nation will have more expensive housing? Germany, it seems, is also a nice place to live but it's also a very small country.

Just don't move to France. Ever. Pricks. Everywhere. Paris smells like urine.

I go to England every year, and think the people there are nicer than in Holland.
And we have the dooshbag Geert Wilders aswell.

I'm going to move to London or Paris when I finish my study, never had any problems with Frenchmen and I love the language.

Anyway Jeeves, If I were you I would go traveling for like a year through europe (or somewhere else) and make up your mind on your personal experiences of your trip.

Well, I live in Norway, and I find it to be a really shit place to live. However, according to recent years UN surveys, Norway is the best country to live in on earth. My point is, every country has it's pros and cons. I've always thought of Norway as shit and Sweden as much better, but if you read BubbleQ's post above, it seems like he thinks the exact opposite. No one likes their own country, I guess.

But if you seriusly consider moving, I think both Iceland and Switzerland (and to a certain extent, Norway) are pretty good countries to live in. There's also several microstates in Europe, like Liechtenstein, where you don't have to pay taxes;)

Australia is fucking awesome if you can deal with:

a) Smoke (Unless in the city, or in the centre of a main town) from bush fires...
b) Aussie spelling
c) Scorching heat
d) Cold Weather
e) People pointing out Kangaroo's even if they're exceeding the Human Population of Australia, and INCREDIBLY boring.

Other than those, it's pretty awesome. Unless you really want piles of toy guns, that're made of metal. None of those here...

I'm from Melbourne and while although I've never left the country I can't help but promote my country a little. Here (though I'm sure it would feel the same in many western cultures) it feels kind of like a giant hand has reached into a bag of the world's peoples and plucked out all sorts of different people, what you get is a mixed bag of people from all over the world.
Though the thing I think that separates Australia (and probably many other countries) from places like Europe or America is that there isn't a clearly defined "Australian" person. I've always seen somebody as Australian regardless of where they're from or what language they speak - there's no definitive Australian race or what not.
There's quite a few British migrants down here too, so you should fit in fine if you do make your way down under. Though if you do come keep your options to the south-east with Sydney, Melbourne or somewhere further north like Brisbane. I've been to Adelaide and found it dull compared to Melbourne, Perth is isolated from the rest of the world and that affects prices as such and the "red centre" is little more than sand with a few big rocks.

Anyway - you'll be welcome down here if you choose to come, though as Crenfear said you must deal with >40 degree heat and smokey days in the summer - in the future I think I'm going to spend the summer down here up the northern hemisphere.

P.S: I've had kangaroo for dinner a few times before - tastes good man. And Australia needs to be a republic damn it!

I just spent a month in Norway. Its a pretty nice, much more easy going than the UK. Guess it depends on where you go though.

I grew up in Norway. I don't live there, but I can't imagine a more beautiful and peaceful place.

The idea of moving there after uni has crossed my mind a lot. My brother moved there last year and he loves it.

Very very expensive there though, but you earn a lot more there.

Although, from my view, I want to go somewhere else, i guess America isn't bad. We made pepsi...

Oh yeah, word of advice, stay away from the southern part of America, not a lot of charming people down here, I'm hoping to move when I get older.
