Will it go through? Not sure. The whole ID card thing has been going on for ages and still hasn't gone through, so if it does go through, it will probably take a long time. There is already a check in place called the
Criminal Records Bureau check, which works perfectly fine, which the government seem to have forgotten about.
This new thing is only going to add confusion, and its only extra targets will be ordinary people who have any kind of semi-regular contact with kids, no matter who short the time. One example that has been given is parents taking other people's children in their car to take them on a school run, (however this is only supposedly if this arrangement is made through the school). People will just stop helping each other out like this. I wouldn't be surprised if people who run ice cream vans are mentioned next.
Another thing to note is that the check is not going to just be based on any offical document evidence or criminal background check, which can all be verified. It's also going to be based on what everyday people say about you, so a neightbour who doesn't like you could make up a story about you being a pedophile, and there would have to be a big investigation into if you are one. Even after the stories have been proved false, no doubt the people who have been involved in the investigation will now be suspicious, which could include your friends, family, neighbours or if the company/school that you were applying for a job at.
It's going to be a huge mistake, which I will rectify if all of you will help be become Grand Supreme Ruler of Britain. Either that or we take the government to the seaside, give them a good hard kick in the ass into the sea and wave as they float away or drown.
