I'm only taking the flu shot because my dad is a "high risk person" due to his diabetes.

Apparently the US shot is different from other shots as it uses live antigens instead of dead, so there's an actual chance it can mess with you.

My mom's a frail old woman with cancer. She took the vaccine and she's fine. Allergic reactions happen. People are also allergic to peanuts, but that doesn't stop the rest of everyone else from eating them.

Yeah, sorry you had a bad reaction but less people have allergic reactions than would die from swine flu. If you are around people a lot, I do recommend getting the vaccine as swine flu primarily affects people in the 18-59 range (versus regular flu which is most deadly to infants and elderly above 64).
