If you're not immature, then act mature, and show peopel that they are wrong to be so stereotypical.

Children are people.
Pre-teens are people.
Teens are people.
Young adults are people.
Baby Boomers are people.
Elders are people.

Do you see a pattern?

Patronizing is a bad habit.

Listen.

When I watch an adult talk to a child, I see them talking to the kid as though the kid is useless and annoying. Some adults even do the same thing with their very elders.
They do it because they can't be assed to make the leap between their generation and another one. Not because they're specifically targetting children for abuse.

Why then, are any of you who are older surprised that these previously-patronized teenagers don't communicate back to you in a rational way? It's because you failed in your job of teaching those kids to communicate.

Teens don't just magically get immature. They learn it. Hell, I think a lot of kids could use less maturity. It seems like such a fad to 'make kids behave' that the kids lose their emotional soul. I think that's the root of why so many kids are stoned by their parents, teachers and doctors with riddalin and other substances.

Hrmm, and what, raccoonking, if I find everyone useless and annoying? oh, aren't I freaking hillariuos?

Seriously though, while your point on patronizing and refusing to make the generation leap is exceptionally stated and well thought out, I think that summarizing that we're all people and we should treat everyone like people is a little bit too simple and doesn't work. You have to talk to little kids as if they're little kids. I'm sorry. I'm not talking baby talk, I'm not talking condescending, but if you don't put them in their place when neccessary, you're just going to end up on Maurie having to send them to boot camp (LOVE those shows. Whateva, whateva, I do what I want!) This works for all generations: you must tailor your communication to the people. Not patronizing, not exasperated "what now"s, but tailored conversation.

Not that I'm disagreeing with the rest of what you said, as you made great points there.

~Jason

Edit: Oh, and I don't think kids are every TOO mature, break their freaking spirit young, they way they don't put up a fuss when they find out the realities of the world. Plus it saves on having to listen to their stupid dreams.

Kids need to be beaten. 'nough said. The reason young people like myself are so annoying is because their parents do nothing to make them behave. Even small things to make them behave. Parents in america dont tell their kids "no" which is a bad thing. Or they arent agressive. Thus making the child spoild.

Well, my main point (that, by your solemn and apparently irrevocable decree "doesn't work") is that you can't group all 'kids' into a blanket category any better than you can group all 'old fogies' into a blanket category. That's why I emphasized that all ages are people.

If an adult prejudges a child like that, before they have even spoken with them once, I think the communication will often be dead on arrival, and the child upon growing up will be likely to do the same with an adult, because that's what he or she was taught to do.

It's good to maintain a level of maturity oin the internet and to remind others when to be mature, but it's not cool to be one of those fucksticks who think everyone has to be mature at all times because they say so.

But then you can just be immature and say "TEH ITNERNET IS SEERIUS BIZNESS!!!11"

Around here, none of my friends get what they deserve for there actions, and parents jsut give up. It's quite sad

Talk about stereo typical BS. I am not saying it doesn't happen but to include all of the US is just plain irresponsible. Just because your small part of the world acts that way doesn't mean everyone follows suit.

I agree with you that physical punishment is a good thing if it is used correctly and not abused. When I went to school we got our ass beat if we F'ed up. This has since changed and is cause to some unruley kids. This part of America is flawed due to people not wanting their children hit by so called strangers. If the little shits act up they need to be smacked down, it works. I am all for corporal punishment.

While observing particular actions of the younger minority these past few day's I'm terribly thankful that my parents slapped me 'upside the 'ead when I deserved it. Also I agree on the comment of "If the little shits act up they need to be smacked down, it works.

Everybody has come up with some good points, but just to prove to you that young people can be mature. Blink said one of the first time's we talked that he thought I was way older than 12 (thats how old I am)

I said why?

He said by the way you act, and you take time to spell, and you respect other people. He thought I was way older, never said a number. But I know he was shocked when I said I was 12. It's not impossible.

Not impossible, but by far the vast majority of snotty little kids make everyone in that age group look bad. You have to agree on that point.
