There should, however, be exceptions, in the form of a certain select group of women who fall under the name of "frigginly hot"

How about the cloned soldiers that you had to fight in F.E.A.R.? That could be a good use for clones. Simply raise them in such a way that they will never understand anything but the military and taking orders, something like in the movie Soldier...

Perhaps some kind of brain implant that suppresses their higher thoughts, so that they can do little but follow orders and their training... :?

And then there are the ethics involved. is it life. Is what we are doing right? Is it any different from simple slavery?

Honestly people shouldn't play God. That goes with quite a few things, suicide, cloning, abortion(there are certain exceptions), murder, and so on.
Their first album was better.

the problem with such a statement is that its limitless. To what extend do you think we can play for god? are we allowed to cure diseases? are we allowed to kill a person to save millions? are we allowed to commit suicide to help others? to help ourselves? Are we allowed to clone people to save people?

in the strictest interpretation of your statement we arent allowed to do anything but laying around in a puddle as we did millions of years ago? As our evolution went by we had to help ourselves more and more by non-conventional ways, lest we didnt get extinct. We invented medecine to cure people. Is this playing god? we invented war to defend our people. is this playing god?

Im simply saying you should think over your statements, a statement like you wrote doesnt make sence at all

One could also argue that if there is a God, and he mad mankind in his image, that mankind is immediately given the power to control our world by whatever means we see fit. If God had something against human science, he would stop us, right? We have the power to manipulate the genetic code for whatever reason we want.

Could one not also argue that since it is a known fact that any sufficiently advanced technology is indistingishable from magic, that perhaps this "God" was in fact an alien?

More likely, the concept of a God is just a means of self-assurance, and the phrase "he made man in his own image" is just a shortsightedness of the species.

Well I should have been more clear and thought out my post first. I guess I mean the more extreme cases such as cloning and abortion. I shouldn't have put murder in that category cause that is human nature. I also wouldn't say we "invented" war. War came naturally.

Just to jump in with everyone else: Organs are great, but clonging Humans raises too many questions about rights, identity, etc. The idea of clone armies is terrible, sure it would be convenient for you, but I don't think I could live with the idea of creating slaves, inhumanely denied the basic rights of human beings (they are still human) and forced to give themeselves for a cause they know nothing of to protect the freedoms that they have no access to.

"playing god" is impossible in my eyes because i believe that there is no god. We managed to form our own problems and our existance is complete luck. Most scientists guess that the original cells jumped onto earth from a meteor and then they formed Animals which then evolved to what we have today. We aren't "playing god" but we are doing good for our civilization. We could use these organs from clones to almost get rid of handicaps. (note i said almost.)

This won't be possible untill we all die anyway. So it isnt any of our concern.

not really, we already know we can create life by the perfect combination of gasses as they existed back then, with the help of lightning and seismic warmth to act as catalysts

we are able to mimic these conditions and are able to form amino-acids spontaneusly. These will form small proteins, like RNA. RNA can replicate itself, therefor, the first form of life was in fact a string of RNA in a puddle some billion years ago. RNA got transferred into DNA (which is more stable), and after a while a lipid layer was formed to protect the DNA. the first cell was born

I am certain it will happen sooner than you think.

There is a reason why I have that quote in my sig...

You don't need to grow an entire organism in order to grow particular pieces. For example, for years, we've been growing replacement (cosmetic outsides only) ears. Yep. They inject the DNA type stuffs (not really sure how) into a particular kind of rat and a HUMAN EAR grows off of its back. When it's ready, they harvest it and sow it onto someone's head.

Growing organs is something that's entirely possible, and it's most definately not neccessary to grow a human to harvest them from. When you start doing that, you start raising serious questions. The Island anyone?

Perhaps you have heard of the organ printer developed by MIT two years ago? It combines a regular inkjet printer with a biogel plate. It squirts out living stem cells in a thin layer, and surrounds them with the biogel. It keeps building up, layer after layer, until is has the shape you want. When it is done, give the cells some time to connect, then warm it up and the gel melts away. Finished 3D living object.

Last I heard, they managed to make a tube out of heart cells. They then made the whole tube beat in sync with a little shock. Cool, huh?
