I was looking on an internet comic, and found this:

"Earlier this month, gamer named Mitchell S. with the online screenname "Kuja105" who posts on a few online videogame forums (including GameFaqs.com and MetalGearSolid.org) committed suicide. On January 2 he posted a message in both forums detailing his intent to end his own life, citing overwhelming complications with school and finances.

A very brief period of initial disbelief was followed by a barrage of replies from fellow forum members pleading that he not take his life, trying to talk him out of it.

For days, no word was heard from Mitchell. Fearing the worst, members and administration from metalgearsolid.org began searching for contact information, spending hours on the phone trying to get in touch with him. Finally on January 4, Ryan K., an administrator at metalgearsolid.org, got him on the phone and spent hours desperately trying to talk him out of it.

Sadly, Mitchell soon ended his own life by consuming antifreeze and painkillers.

Later, members from the site contacted Mitchell's family to find out the grave news. They reported it to their online community, and posted a tribute to their passed friend on the front page of metalgearsolid.org." Full Report Here. http://news.gaminghorizon.com/media2/11 ... .3198.html

Mr. Jack Thompson then sent in the following letter regarding the situation to http://www.MetalGearSolid.org one of the forums frequented by Mitchell, where he was known well:

"Your "gamer friend" will find peace through the Lord, Jesus Christ, but sadly it's too late for that.

There is a void in every heart. You can fill it up with the things of God, or the things not of God. This unfortunate soul chose to fill it up with combat games. The playing of these video games is masturbatory activity, meaning senseless self-stimulation. If you gamers could use a dictionary you would know that that term is not necessarily a sexual one.

The real tragedy here extends beyond the life and death of this one fellow. There are literally millions of young people and young adults whose despair is deepend by turning to the things of this world and then finding them meaningless.

All of you gamers need to put down the controllers and get a life. The utter inanity of the vast majority of postings here shows how vapid "gaming" really is.

You are one of the cheerleaders for this wasting of time and the wasting of lives. Do you feel any remorse for having contributed to this "culture of death?" Of course not. Hey, let's all play MORE games, and ignore all the really productive things to do with our lives.

Let's pretend to be shocked that a gamer might descend into deeper depression, as his gamer "buds," knowing he was killing himself, couldn't figure out how to call 911 themselves for him. That would have involved leaving their computers I guess.

Sad. Sad for all of you."

Clearly, jman, you've never been depressed.

When you're suicidally depressed anything can seem like an insanely powerful burden on you. He probably did have difficulty in school and with money but I doubt it's those things that made him take his life, it was probably the fact he felt alone with the problems.

I knew a guy who committed suicide about 2 years ago, he was one of the funniest guys I ever knew and he was just a great guy all round - he was learning to model and the only ever hint we got was when he mentioned something in a thread entitled "What do you hate?" and he replied "My life" - Most people didn't realise and about a month later we found out he had committed suicide.

But as reeke says, Jack Thompson needs to go find himself a real fucking job. What were they going to do if they called 911?

"Hey I think my friend wants to commit suicide I need help, what do I do?"
"Where does your friend stay?"
"I don't know."

He's a cock.

I've thought of offing myself, but my thought of automatically going to hell for suicide keeps me from it.

I think suicide is a waste, its terrible it happens and I do know how they feel. I've nearly reached the idea of suicide, I've had several times when I just wanted to be over with everything, but I always pull myself out by reminding myself that as a human being, as a part of society, it is my ultimate duty to do something with my life. Even if my life has little impact on the world it is only right for me to give it my all. Suicide is just a way of depriving the world of something it needs. Very few people should have the right to commit suicide (i.e. fucktard terrorists should go kill themselves) but otherwise you are important, for everyone in the world there is someone else who cares for them. You must realize that every person in the world does have an impact, even if it seems minute. For every single soul on the planet who every will consider, considering, or considered suicide just stop, relax, think, there is something greater that you can accomplish other than your own death, when things seem bad there is always a worse situation. There is more than likely someone out there who is in a worse situation than you but also at the same time content with what they have. You never know what one person can change.

That's sad. I actually know of someone else, whom I actually talked to once or twice.(On a forum.) He commited suicide this week. Shawn Noel is his name. It's terrible to see people with such great potential end their lives. I've been depressed at times, but thankfully I now have a great group of friends. (In real life.) I also would think to myself, if I killed myself, I'd fuck all the plans that I have for my life.

Mitchell S. was in college I believe, late teens or early twenties.

Either way, what Jack Thompson said about it is completely disgusting.

i hate how they make suicide illegal...

is pointless and stupid
"hey look, that kid is gunna kill him self!"
"i know! lets send him to jail for a year so he can have a better reason to do it!"
"that sounds like a great idea!"

and what do ya know, the kid kills himself in jail next month...

there should be a place where people can go if they feel like their life is shit, and can talk to people about it
but then the fact that a parent kills themselves, sickens me... it doesnt matter what has happened, i dont see who u can be os selfish to leave ur child alone in the world...

Not everyone buys into religion mate.

I'm dead against suicide but i've been there my self and believe me there is no "omg suicide is for losers fuck that" way out of things. Some people really do get to the point where they really can't see any other way out of things.

Do i pity them? Yes i do. I really don't believe there should be situations which can cause people that much grife but there are. I think it's the single most selfish thing a person can do but i still feel very sorry for them.

As far as i am concerned you saying "he can't have been all that stressed" is a very blind and ignorant thing to say. Makes me wonder about the validity of you saying you've actually goten to a point where it seems like suicide is a way out rather then just having a brife thought about it which i think most people do at one stage in their life.

Oh and jack thompson really is a sick and twisted person. Using something like this to manipulate and twist people for his own gains. He's the kind of guy who used 9/11 as a tool for manipulating people....perfect for government.

I personally have heard people go on and on about suicide, so much so now that its more of a common phrase so to speak. Suicide I feel is very selfish but I do understand why people to do it, especially in more extreme cases that ive heard about. Personally I just look at the faults and turn them into good things and then look at that in a positive nature. For example, I'm really thin and I dont really like it but then I just think well at least I can get down small cracks between buildings, not that I ever will but the point is there. However if this thread has shown anything an irony will occur, because I can see this Jack Thompson guy in 40 years time (if he doesnt get "accidentally" killed in this time") being a more annoying version of Victor Meldrew. Although his comments lead me to believe people will one day take revenge against his comments.
