what defines a religion? the way a (stupid) book/some egotrippin jerks tells people how they SHOULD live, or the way most of the believers live? it is the second, therefore your entire last post just owned yourself.

Terminator, your ignorance on this subject is getting frustrating. Quoting particular verses out of context that support violence (I can do the same with the bible until we're both blue in the face) proves nothing.

There are people that interpret religious books in extreme ways, and there are people that interpret it in more practical ways. Yes, I read your post about how the Qu'ran can't be interpreted, but that's, well, a bad interpretation. Muslims are not divided into two groups: the ones who read the Qu'ran religiously and who are violent, extremists and people who don't really read it. I'm not sure if you're aware of it or not, but there are hundreds of thousands of non-extremist, but extremely religious muslims.

The fact that you continue insisting that no muslim who actually reads their holy book as they should can be of moderate beliefs and must inately go off on murderous rampages against nonbelivers is insulting at the least. I do not care for your intolerance and foolishness and it needs to stop. I know that there's not going to be a concensus here, but just let this fucking topic die allready. It's fools like you that exacerbate problems that shouldn't even exist is the first place.

This thread is really starting to turn sour. There are way too many assumptions being thrown around by a lot of people for this thread to be discussed in a serious and open-minded manner.

This is the typical outcome of a religious debat. Some folks just take written words to literally.

I changed the name to theology so that we can talk more about religions, and not just complain.

Theology is the study of religion; not just a giant rant box.

I hate to stamp on free speach, but when it borders on insightment to racial hatred I occasionally feel the need. Basically I can't believe this thread is allowed to continue and personally I think terminator should be banned from the forum.

Bro, I can agree that Terminator's views are a bit extreeme (full pun intended!) but they are not grounds for a ban from a HL2 forum. If he was going around to Islam Religious Discussion forums, yeah maybe.

Everyone needs to lighten up and have a freakn beer on me!

Terminator, theology huh? You think that what you have been staining this thread with is theology discussion? I have not had the pleasure (sarcasm) of reading all that you have posted but skimmed through enough to see that you have a distorted view and belief that the Islamic faith is hell bent on taking over the world and most are willing to strap a bomb to their backs.

If I am wrong (talking about what you said) please say so, otherwise lighten up and try not to judge people based on their faith. Isn't that a BIG christian belief?

I think you are a very disturbed person (religiously speaking) but do not think badly of you! I do believe that you would strap a bomb to your back to prove a point thought!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! hahahaha J/K! :hurr:

Hmm, well seeing as the quote that he used said "some" of the wars, not "all" wars, I dont see what we are debating. There is no doubt that christianity has caused some wars and some of these wars have killed off many people in general. I am not saying I favor any other religion, Infact, i hate all religion because they all cause war. However, Christianity AND Islamic religions both cause wars against each other and even some of their own people. I was simply stating that his religion, same with everyone elses religion, causes many wars and there is no doubt about this and I could break down all the historical events that prove this but I am too damn lazy to do that! :P

Note to terminator: Please read ALL of the things you are quoting. Saying SOME brutal wars are caused by that religion cannot be argued. That doesnt mean that I am stating that ONLY THAT religion causes violent wars and massacures... Just out of curiosity, did you vote for bush?

God this thread won't die, oh well.

Yokai, I'm really curious to see what wars you're attributing to various religions. An anthropology class I took a while back summed it up pretty succinctly: All wars are caused by Agriculture. The reasoning behind this seemingly insane statement is this: Before agricultural societies, there was no need to "own" land, and thus, while skirmishes did happen, there was essentially no war. However, when lives became dependant on the land you harvested, more land became more and more of an appeal, people get jealous (or desperate) and power hungry and greedy and they start wars for more land, for more money, for more power.

The point I'm making is this: There have been innumerable wars waged in the NAME of religion, but very, very, very few of them had anything to do with religion at all. They were thinly veiled grabs at money/land/power. Ideology is an excuse. Did the United States really care about communism in the 50's? Sure, people knew they hated them. But US military policy wasn't guided by the idea of democracy for all, it was done to support our financial and political stakes in various countries. I used a non-religious example, but nearly every single major conflict (or even important one) can be rationalized this way. Religion is rarely the instigator of a war, it's merely the mascot. This goes for just about any ideology.

That is not true. When you look into the case of Wold War II, ofcourse Adolf was not fighting in the name of christianity. However, alot of his life and backround revolved around the church and its morals.

Thats not as good of an example than the race to "convert" the Americans. They were to christianize the people of america, however it lead quickly to massacures. Some type of thing happened in Mexico when cortez arived.

Now, lets not just storm around christianity. One of the huge issues in islam is the civil wars that have gone on for decades which started by a clash of two religions and eventualy led to a huge civil war.

There were many cases in Ancient Rome, Greece and Egypt that involved wars over gods.

There is a site for some nay sayers... took 3 seconds to find on google  I could even find some collage papers if you really need me to. I don't see the issue with the statement that religion causes wars because it is true. So stop turning your back on the truth please, it what makes america like bush.

http://www.religioustolerance.org/curr_war.htm

It even gives examples... IMO better than mine. I aint no philosipher.

I've been watching this thread for a while and i've been tempted to lock it but not quite.

No terminator wont be banned. He really hasn't got a clue what he's on about true but he's not done anything bannable.

I don't see this thread going on much longer so i think i'll lock it before it has a chance to go to complete pot.
