Hot topic: Cannibalism

Postby Terminator on Wed Feb 01, 2006 1:07 am

While most western cultures view cannibalism as strict taboo, and they used to excecute you for ever admitting to such a thing, other cultures today and in history embraced it for various reasons.

Some considered it a form of respect for their deceased, so that they would never allow a body to rot in the dirt, and so the person (in a manor of speaking) would continue to live with the rest of the community...

Some used it as a weapon during warfare: a sick means of terrorizing their enemies and reminding them that they are to be treated no better than food. This is now believed about the American Indian tribe that build those cities into the sides of cliffs (whatever they were called...). The decendents of these tribes still refuse the accept the evidence of boiled human remains and human tool and teethmarks upon them...

There are several stories of cannibalism being resorted to when bodies are the only source of nourishment to a trapped individual or group. A recent example was when a plane carrying a sports team crashed in the [Rocky Mountains, I think], and the survivors were forced to eat the dead on the plane to stay alive. Had this happened 70 years ago or earlier and they told someone, they would have been hanged. (In the old days, you were simply expected to be tough and die.) But modern society is a little more understanding of desperate circumstances, and no charges were brought against the survivors.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

From a medical standpoint, human flesh is the perfect nourishment for a desperate person. It contains all the nutrients our bodies need, and in the correct quantities to boot. It is easy to digest, and it packs an enormous power to restore a withering body to full health.

So I was curious, what do the rest of you think about this "hot" and often taboo topic?

these people don't understand the digestive system

Cannibalism on the dead (as in...dead of natural causes. Not of you killing them) is ok. If you're that fucked up, and think that will help in some way, go ahead, but killing someone to eat them, or eating someone else who is requesting you to, that's just wrong on every level

Hmm...I believe that if the situation is desperate, and it must be resorted to,you have to do what you have to do.I know half the people here are probably like "0mg j00 sick c4nnib41!!!one!"
BUT,think about it:We humans are animals.Smart, but still animals. We eat other animals, such as cows, pigs, eggs, chicken, etc. Now,I personally don't like meat, and I couldn't bear the thought of eating a friend, similar to the horror of eating a pet.
It isn't all that sick, like they said, human flesh seems to be a pretty good source of nourishment.

Wouldn't care what the situation was, eating another human. . thinking about it makes me feel sick.I would rather die tbh. It's getting to the stage were you could nearly say that humans "once" were animals, I know there is still people who dont have any sense whatsoever and love the sight of some blood, but surely evolution will eventually make the majority grow away from such disgusting acts.

If you were really hungery, you might think twice. Most anyone here has not gone more than 3-4 days without anything. Wait till you go 5-6 days without eating. Even your live buddy starts looking good. If your in a group and your not the only one eating, then I guess you'll be the next to pass. Double-entendre intended.

you get mad cow disease from eating another persons brains. theres no problem with eating the rest of their flesh. call me sick and wierd, but the only reason i wouldnt try it is because to get a decent flavour you would have to eat a chick, as male hormones in a lot of species ruin the flavour and texture of the meat (the hormones dont really kick in till puberty, so eating children would be fine :P). i despise people treating chicks badly.

Actually, I think it would taste more like pork. After all, humans are similar enough to pigs that they can transplant some organs...

Canibalism in some cultures is a used as a way to honor the dead. However it is also been used to survive...many many times. However it takes a lot longer than 4-5 days before someone starts thinking about cannibalism, usually it will take about a month without food before a group of people will convert to cannibalism for survival. As long as they have water to drink of course. You'll die of dehrydration long before you'll die of starvation.

As for people tasting good? I don't want to find out.
