That's badass man, good for you. Having said that, what tips can you give to the rest of us?

yeah, what kind of stuff do they ask in those "intervieuws"?

Usually they tend to ask how you would solve problems, and your thoughts on how a map should be built. They also like to ask questions about other games (most of the time theyre games the company has already made) about what you would improve and what you thought wasnt done well, along with what stuff you liked the most and so on.

They dont ask any strange questions most of the time, but tend to just ask about what you can/would do for certain types of maps, along with how you think certain gameplay would be done to make it fun for the player.

What I don't understand is, won't he have to learn a whole new tool? How does anybody know he would be as good?

Not to discourage, of course.

Yep, im going to have to learn to use a heavily modified version of Radient. I dont think there will be any loss of quality, as mapping is more than just how good you are with the editor. You need to know how things should look, how good gameplay works and how to optimize things. They told me its not all that different from Hammer, though.

Radiant is very easy, just has a fucking awful camera view.

On a side note well done and good luck.

the quality isnt in what tool you use, it's what you can do with it that counts.

to alexroyce:

Did they ask to see full versions of your maps - or were the screens enough for them? Also, what sorts of things would be good to put on ones resume for this sort of job... undoubtably they saw yours?

most companies dont care if you have a degree or not . I know lots of people in the industry that all dont have a degree. I do think it would be in anyones best interest to get one tho so they have somthing to fall back on if they get fired or work startes to get ruff . But as long as you can show that your better then the next guy , companies will pretty much hire you. ^_^

just my 2 cents - vivi

They didnt ask me for anything, probably because I offer everything on my site and they could just pick what they wanted to check out (and on my portfolio page I sent them I had a link to a map download). While at the actual offices they went over my resume with me, just asking me questions about stuff I had on there, and later on everyone went to a room and checked out my website and map pictures.

For resume stuff, list all the stuff youre skilled in, along with all work experience (if any) and completed work. Thats what I did, anyway.

Ive got a GED. The reason being because my education was really spotty as I moved around alot with family, and when I got back to the states I knew that I wasnt learning anything in school (I went from English 1 in a private school in Korea to English 4 in the states - thats how different the quality of education was), so I decided to take the GED and just improve on mapping as its what I wanted to do. I cant afford college (spent my fund on bills), but maybe one day ill go with the money I earn from working with IW. But Vivi's right, if youre good at what youre trying to get hired to do, they wont care what kind of education you have (thankfully :P).

I also seem to have a new custom title. Neat :)
