What "work" music do you listen to?

Postby InternalRage on Mon May 29, 2006 7:29 pm

Some people, (ie. myself) have different playlists for when they map, model, skin, code etc. I only map, so I have a playlist in WMP named "Mapping Music"

As my regular music is a real big list, but a lot of it doesnt motivate me in mapping, so I have cool, motivating/fun music in my mapping playlist.

Like Kung Foo Fighting, Fresh Prince of Bel Air theme, etc.

So, what about you?

Ah I see, but "how do you listen" to it when you're not doing something that you need to concentrate?

I couldn't listen to rock music at all when I map.

Especially screamo.

I can't map with very 'complicated' music I guess... distracts too much and makes you want to tap or sing along or whatever
I need simple repeating rhythm stuff (that's what I like anyway) It's also great for when you're stoned, I'd say 'my' music is multi functional

how do I listen to it though? erhh dunno with my ears

 I'm pretty sure you know what I mean.

But do you actually listen to the words etc, or do you just have it as a background ambient and hardly paying attention.

well I usually if there's any text just mumble along whilst creating brushes

but I mostly have it as a background ambient... sometimes when I'm not focused on the mapping I listen to it for a while and it gets me back in
I never actually finished a map though  lol
I'm working on it though!

do you guys love stargate? lol I'm helping some Germans with their mod

I listen to whatever I'm in the mood for. If I'm mapping for something fantasy style (which I was today) then I might play some sort of tribal or orchestra music. If I'm just relaxin I listen to rock. If I'm driving usually it's metal.

When I skin/photoshop, or try to model, I listen to FF7 AC soundtrack, Smashmouth, The Black Mages, and some custom music.

I perfer to listen to soundtracks or something relaxing when I map -or- code. Something that triggers the imagination. EX: im weird but I like soundtracks from Gladiator,Star Wars,Beraka, and other stuff, or stuff I made lol. Also anything classical does fine too, hell or some bassy drum music wootz.

Like Spartan said, it depends what I'm in the mood for. If I get really in the zone, I'll listen to electro-y/dance stuff or rock. There are times when I want to do something but just can't be fucked, and thats when I put more chilled stuff on. Or the Lost soundtrack, which is just cool.

Same for me. I don't really care what I'm listening to when doing whatever, just my main playlist on shuffle is good enough for me. There is about 20GB of music in there, so lots of variation at all times to be had.

i listen to everything these days, the shuffle method. I used to listen to alot of techno when i mapped...

these days, like now, at work, i just go to http://www.neotokyohq.com and let the music play. good, not too distracting stuff.

I used to listen to a lot of 8-Bit Music as it was really simplistic and yet very melodic and relaxing, I now tend to play pretty much anything, one of my main mapping themes is now 'Tiny Tears' off the Terria album by Devin Townsend, the has some quite experimentalist stuff and a lot of it can be distracting but for the most part Terria is soft and I've heard it so often over the past couple of weeks it's become like background noise.

Very enjoyable background noise.
