A couple of comments:
Yes, this movie was fing badass
While it's a prequel, nothing in the bond franchise bothers with chronology. It takes place today, as all James bond take place in the years that they were made (except when they say 10 years ago or whatever). Try not to think too hard about it because it's always how it's been. James bond movies regard no continuity. If it helps, think of it as the Batman Begins of the Bond series.
Next: The bubbling of the building. It would continue to bubble and sink for a while. There would be tons of small little air pockets, continued degradation of the building, burst pipes etc. A little over the top? Yeah, well, of course. No more over the top than a stray bullet hitting the floats causing the building to sink.
Also, there was no money-penny. She wasn't killed, just not included.
But yes, the ending was disappointing. I know what they were going for, I understand their ruse, but it was poorly edited together. It wasn't that it was 4 endings it was that there was too much fluff.
It was the only real complaint I had with the movie. Fight scenes were brutal (fist fights to the death actually FELT like fistfights to the death, not some overlychoreographed judo-chop affair). Parkor sequence at the beginning was brilliant, all the fight scenes were awesome, the villain seemed practical, cars were beautiful, ladies were beautiful, tension was well played. Yeah.
