Metal fans out there?

Postby nub on Wed Jun 11, 2008 12:09 am

Hey guys, aside from my electronica endeavors, I'm also a lover of Metal. My brother introduced me to a really awesome band called Caliban. Their new album The Awakening was pretty impressive when I listened to it, they're pretty damn heavy. I just thought I'd share them with any of you who also like to enjoy some good old heavy-ass metal. (Mak I know you like Metal).

Sorry about it being myspace, it's all I could really find. Out of all the songs on their profile, Life is Too Short and I Will Never Let You Down are the ones that I like. One of them isn't even from their new album I believe.

lulz. I checked the forums and found this as I am signing along to "2 minutes to midnight - Iron Maiden"
What a ch00n!11 =]

I'm lucky, I live in the birthplace of metal.
I gots Iron maiden, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin...all from round here. Bands like them started it, don't forget your roots. =]

Saw Maiden a couple of years back. Im mostly into European Metal atm. Power/Death/Classical/Gothic/Melodic etc.

Bands you should check out if you haven't heard them.
-Blind Guardian
-Iced Earth
-Sonata Arctica
-3 Inches of Blood
-Dream Evil
Plenty of others, but thats just the first few I noticed on my playlist.

I like some Death Metal, but mostly Metalcore. I never really liked the older bands from the 80s and such like Iron Maiden and everything, they just don't appeal to me. I like the newer metal out there.

It's pretty crazy if you compare metal today with the metal from back then.

I listen to:

-Caliban
-As I Lay Dying
-Soilwork
-Haste the Day (Barely anymore ever since their lead singer Jimmy got replaced)
-System of a Down (Apparently they're music is considered metal so I guess I'd just toss them in there)

And a lot of other random bands my brother shows me. He pretty much introduced Metal to me. Before I wasn't really in to a lot of music, but I was mainly a fan of Hard Rock, and of course, various electronica genres.

System are a good band, but Im not into that kind of american style metal. Like you said about the old stuff, for me its that stuff that doesn't appeal.

I just got back from Rock Am Ring in Germany, it was fucking mental. the Highlight for me was seeing Rage Against the Machine up front. every pit was a wall of death, everybody was moshing, american flags where burnt, I have burns on my arm from starting a circle pit holding a flare... crazy crazy stuff.

that said, it was mainly a metal festival and of the more metally stuff I hope you all check out Turisas. for one, they dress as vikings, for two, RA RA RASPUTIN!

edited because holy shit I think I found a video with me holding the flare in.

You know that up and until after reading your post I just realized that Rage Against the Machine hated America?

I could honestly care less seeing an American flag being burnt anyway. All this political shit is pointless anyway.

Anyway, yeah there are plenty different groups of metal out there, many different styles. I don't hate the foreign bands because their just foreign, in fact there are a few German bands I've liked, although I can't recall any (Not Rammstein, I hate that band). It's just that I prefer the American style. Although I definitely give my props to you fellas for starting it all (well the metal sub-genre, I'd have to say Blues started Rock in general).

both of these sentances make no sense haha. rage dont hate america, just the capitalism. anyway the flag was being burnt in the crowd, which was kind of annoying because they where ouring petrol on it and the sole of my shoe caught fire. not even joking.

I dont think theres really an american/european style of rock, one thing I found at rock am is that I couldnt tell the german bands from the Us bands. but Im not much of a metalhead to be fair.

Yeah thanks for pointing that out, I may have all their albums but I never bothered to learn anything about the band.
/end sarcasm.
I realise that my sentence contradicted itself slightly, I said I wasn't 'into american style metal' which system of a down are NOT. So read properly first, learn the facts and then go die, thankyou. =]

Yeah see I never liked Metallica either. I think they just sound too...redundant. I remember like the first three songs I heard from them, they sounded so similar. It was almost as bad as that one album by Disturbed (Not the new one).

I really dont like disturbed, but they played a good gig at rock am.

also, metallica are epic live, you can tell they have been doing it for a long time and they know how to work a crowd. they start of with ecstasy of gold, which just sends shivers down my spine, and when they play one, they start off with gunfire and (actual) explosions and flamethrowers which is pretty damn cool.

oh, and seek and destroy.

yeah Im gonna be pumping rock am ring all through this thread.

I have all of Caliban's CDs :D . The Undying Darkness and The Opposite From Within are Caliban's best CDs. I also like Dimmu Borgir, In Flames, Killswitch Engage, and Mushroomhead. System of a Down is good but they aren't exactly metal. Disturbed's first 2 CDs were good. Metallica rocks.

Every album after "Metallica" sucked ass but everything before it is brilliant such as Master of Puppets, Battery, Seek and Destroy, Orion, Blackened, And Justice For All..., and One.
