Good Movies and Drum and Bass

Postby naked jesus on Sun Jun 15, 2008 11:51 pm

Me and a friend are in need of a few decent movies to last us next weekend. Can anyone recomend anything? The genre doesn't particularly matter (anything: horror, action and comedy oh and vietnam war but i've probably seen them all. I don't mind thinking man's movies either. Anything that you liked.) but i would prefer it if the movies were no older than 1980s.

And as for drum and bass i didn't want to start a new thread but i'd appreciate it if people could show me some decent drum and bass songs/artists. Anything of that genre.

Thanks.

Movies - i'll recommend some more obscure ones you might not have seen, Switchblade Romance (French slasher movie sort of, pretty gory), Planet Terror is fun, and also you might be able to get a copy of new Colin Farrell film called In Bruges, very good that is and quite funny..Apart from that i don't know, Shaun of the dead/Hot fuzz?

Not heard much drum and bass but i have both Pendulum albums so can recommend those

I love Planet Terror! No one has seen it though. Every time I see it I think of making a map of that barbecue house and the military base. Also Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead are good, but I bet he's seen those.

Good movies? Oh, I might have something here...

For comedy: Borat, My Boss's Daughter, maybe some Scary Movie if you like that kind of humor
For horror: Skeleton Key, The Ring (the American version), Secret Window (kinda lame, but still...), The Descent, The Cave, Ghost Ship (I had never heard of this before I saw it, but it's pretty good IMO)
For action: All of the Die Hard movies, all of the Indiana Jones movies, all of the Jason Bourne movies, The Core, Chaos (2006 film about a bank robbery, pretty good actually), Poseidon, Panic Room, Red Eye, Independence Day, The day after Tomorrow, War of the Worlds, National Treasure (haven't seen no. 2), Shooter, Déjà Vu, The Italian Job
For moronity (as in: DON'T watch any of these): Epic Movie, Date Movie, Cursed, The Last Patrol, The Fantastic Four 2

Or my favourite, 50% hardcore, 50% suicidal: Watch all 6 seasons of 24 in one go.

Or, wait for Wills. I think he's got more than a 1000 movies, while I have... *counting*... 48. And 6 seasons of 24.

I just saw Sweeney Todd and it is a really good movie. Hmm, what else If you want to see something funny...well lets say something absolutely ridicules, you may want to watch Zombie Strippers. If you like Kung Fu movies...samurai and stuff like that...you have to see Zatôichi (2003).

Dude, Ironman. It's the best superhero movie I've ever seen. SLC Punk! is badass too, so are The Life Aquatic and V for Vendetta.

Download the Discography of Adam Freeland, he's got some good break beats mixed in there.

Also, there are many VA collections ( Various Artists ), that have been put on CDs, I recommend you seek out those. For heavy beats you can always check out The Prodigy.

Personally I listen to an area around those genres, currently I'm with Junkie XL, Hybrid, Adam Freeland. Add Prodigy to that and you should be set for a bit.

Into the Wild was a great movie. It's about a guy who runs away from his family after he graduates from high school and explores the wilderness in the US. Well-acted and based on a true story.

The Evil Dead series is a great comedy horror series. The first one is probably the goriest of all, and the weirdest, the second is the funniest, less gore. The third one has like no gore at all and has some humor, but I thought it failed.

Maybe some James Bond movies? Casino Royal was a great one.

As for some Drum and Bass music, check this dude (dudette rather) out:

A lot of tracks by her, mostly video-game genre, but definitely DnB. For more DnB, you can search the genre over at Acid Planet.

Movies!

Sunshine
[rec]
Children of Men (I thought they squandered a good plot, but the 5-minute-long unbroken shots of combat are simply mind-blowing)
The Professional
Dancer in the Dark (the most depressing movie in existence, it's good to see once just to say you have)
Naqoyqatsi (if you plan on doing mushrooms, LSD, or DXM beforehand)
Pi
Equilibrium
District 13 (terrific French parkour movie)
Munich
Shaun of the Dead
Ryan (short film)
Severance
Primer (indie film, you'll need to watch it a few times; it's a complete mindfuck)
Steal This Film (parts one and two, free download!)
The Vice Guide to Travel
Trailer Park Boys - The Movie (good even if you haven't seen the show)
12 Monkeys
i had fun once, and it was awful.

The drum n bass arenas CD's have a pretty wide range of songs on they are quite good. Ministry of sound The sound of bassline is quite good. Usually the best drum n bass CD's aren't the mainstream ones, just look around on myspace and stuff or see if anyone in your local area makes any.
