Black Metal ist krieg

Postby headlikeawhole on Thu Jan 01, 2009 9:35 pm

I was just curious to see if any other Interlopers listens to the dark, brooding and powerful music of black metal ? It'd be great if you posted some bands you listen to, as well as songs because a lot of this music is fairly underground and far from mainstream except *cough* the posers; Cradle of Filth *cough* (bonus points to really underground bands ;) ).
Let me start off with my favorite bands :P

- Burzum
- Mayhem
- Dimmu Borgir
- Immortal
- Satyricon
- Behemoth (even though it's more like blackened death metal)
- Melechesh
- Taddart
- Aborym
- Catamenia
- Endless Dismal Moan
- Primordial

I believe that's it, even though I'm willing to give jsut about any a good listen ;)

Before I forget ...

I know i got metal, but i cant hear the difference between dark, death, trash, wazzamacallit and idontreallygiveacrap metal. Seriously, who came up with that stuff?

well, if NIN is dark metal, and dimmu is, and primordial, then i got atleast 3. :D

Ahah black metal really evolved from bands like Venom in the mid/late 80's. It was a really big thing in the early 90's, in Norway, mostly because of what the band members DID rather than the music, but yeah a lot of the ones most people know are classified under the "second wave of Norwegian black metal" like Mayhem and Burzum ;).
nin is really it's own genre in my opinion somewhere in the gray zone between goth and industrial, but like I said, nin is nin.
And yes, Dimmu is a Norwegian symphonic black metal band :).
And Primordial ofcourse is a Celtic melodic black metal band, but they kinda cross into folk at times too :P.

I listen to the following currently:

Soilwork (totally not death/black)
Haste the Day (DEFINITELY not death/black)
As I Lay Dying (metalcore)
Heaven Shall Burn (heavy/death metal, I simply consider them heavy)
Hatebreed (I just consider this straight up metal)
Caliban (German metalcore)

However these aren't even black metal; mostly metalcore and heavy metal. I guess you can consider Heaven Shall Burn death metal, but their name is really just intimidating is all. Their lyrics are actually not as dark as you think, plus they're really good. Their new album Iconoclast is fantastic, and they said the songs tell stories about warriors called Iconoclasts, however that's just about all they said. It's the 1st of 2 parts however, so I'm excited for the next part.

I did listen to The Acacia Strain for a bit, but I just found their lyrics to be retarded. The song Demolisher is about raping and murdering a girl and it's just not appealing to me. They're more Death Metal though.

My brother listens to Behemoth some I guess, their drummer is pretty good though. I read up some of their lyrics and meh...I dunno.

I get real picky with vocals too. If you've ever listened to Carnifex, that's where I draw the line. I don't really like vocals similar to theirs, too grungy and weird. I like to be able to figure out what they're saying. Hell in one of their albums, me and my brother are officially convinced that the singer doesn't say anything, just makes scream noises that SOUND like he's saying stuff.

I hear bands through my brother, he introduced me to all but like 1 band (Soilwork) that I listen to today.
