Never was a Trek fan, but man this movie was fun. I was expecting Nemoy to have a brief cameo, but I'm so glad he had a full blown part. The cast was brilliant, the effects were amazing, the story fun, and the action.... actiony. It was a great film that I really hope the sequels can/will live up to.
Live long and prosper.

I'm a fan of star trek, still haven't bothered myself to see the movie.

Now, when I say I am a fan of star trek, It just means I like the way it references real cultural aspects and moral questions into it's story line, and I am also a fan of the characters. I am not the type of guy who bothers looking deep into every detail of how the enterprise runs and the time line.

Would anyone say there's any sort of deep narrative when it comes to moral / cultural reflections? Or is it just another action flick with sparkely effects and nothing much else? It interests me because I was more into the way Star Trek TNG was, where each episode would have some sort of deeper meaning in the basic sense of human reflection, and tackled the topics of religion, heritage, and various other deep subjects.

I know what you mean about that deeper meaning in TNG, I also found it to be like that. The movie, however, while retaining some superficial take on the "deeper meaning" is still primarily a very good action flick. It has an insight into Vulcan philosophy, perhaps a bit of "how far are you going to go in the name of revenge", and a bit of human psychology.

Other than that it is still an action flick, albeit a very good one.
