South Australia Implements Internet Censorship On Political

Postby Dionysos on Tue Feb 02, 2010 7:06 pm

Slowly but surely towards the post-democratic era! Thought some might find this interesting.

As on January 6, 2010, it has become illegal in South Australia to post political comment online in that State regarding the coming State Election unless that person provides their full name and postcode.

I wouldn't really call that censorship, but it is mighty ridiculous.

Wasn't that repealed earlier today though?

From my understanding it only applies for the duration of the election, then it gets removed.
They cant police it though, the government are just like some old grandad whos grandchild bought him a new computer
and he cant find the "any key"

Still its absolutly dirty Tactics, the only reason its introduced is because the newly formed political group Gamers 4 Croydon are mainly internet based, they cant afford Television advertising etc like the other groups can.

EDIT

Just found this

when it comes to South Australia (and the other AU states)
we got 2 big problems

1.The Australia wide proposed Internet Firewall <- like chinas, but it's meant to make it safe for kids to surf the web, which it won't! "oh my kids will be totally safe now i don't need to supervise my 9 yo when they use the net" FALSE
+ COST $$$$$$$$$ + extra ping

2. No R18+ label for video games <- AGAIN "OH SAVE THE CHILDREN" but in stead r18+ game are RE-label M15+ with some minor changes(like removing 1 cut scene :| ) but it's aimed and design for ADULTS, lots of games rate M15+ would pass as R18+ in the USA :|
all be because of this crazy nutter:

(short video) 46 sec.

Valve wish list:
-Triangle Displacements in hammer/source
-Movable Datum(grid) Planes in hammer
& Arc Based Datum Planes
-Counter Strike 2

I've heard from a few friends that they are trying something similar in Sweden this June (think it was june) because of elections.

Pretty sure it won't happen there as they have a constitution that guarantees freedom of speech, I don't know if Australia does though.
'English as tuppence, changing yet changeless as canal water, nestling in green nowhere, armoured and effete, bold flag-bearer, lotus-fed Miss Havershambling, opsimath and eremite, feudal, still reactionary Rawlinson End.'
