Hello Everyone

Postby Dr. KillPatient on Tue Jun 08, 2010 2:29 pm

Hello, everyone.
I've been lurking about the help section and tutorials at Interlopers for a while and finally decided to create an account. Turns out I already had one from a while back, since my e-mail was already in use. I made a wild guess at the username and password, and lo and behold, here I am.
Anyway, I've been playing Source games from HL1 to L4D2 and using the SDK for just as long (I believe I own every Source game besides DoD). I consider myself a somewhat amateur mapper, mainly because I can't bring myself to finish even simple layouts before my severely OCD "detail everything" impulse sets in, causing me to abandon the project shortly after. Although I've never actually released a map before, I feel that I will be able to in the near future (Valve time).
Ahem. Enough verbosity. Either way, whether I end up releasing a few decent maps or just acquiring greater skill with Hammer and its related tools, it seems I've encountered a great community in which to improve.

Sounds very, very, very familiar to me.

Anyway, welcome back to the forum!

Welcome to Interlopers! I had your same problem back when I used to map, for me it took too much time to create a whole level that looks even half decent. The map battles here might help you out, since you'll only spend a maximum of one month on a project, which hopefully prevents you from getting too bored on a project, and you can get to detailing almost immediately since it's only has to be a small scene. Competition generally drives people to perform better as well, so that's a plus.

That and modeling are great. Anyway, have a nice stay and I hope you do well here. Sorry for long winded speech.

Heyo, welcome to 'Lopers! Hope to see some great stuff from ya! I have the same problem with detailing, so it'll be interesting to see what you can create!
