Icthysaur?

Postby longshanks on Mon Apr 23, 2007 1:31 am

Anyone have any ideas on how to get the icthysaur functional? I was hoping we could get it working as a community project so people can start using him in their SP mods.

Not trying to sound stupid, but what's the icthysaur?

EDIT: Now that I know what it is, did the SDK provide any of the assets for the icthysaur?

The big fish with the big jaw at the beginning of HL2 that almost ate you.

But yeah, you would need to make animations and sounds for it, then code it all in. Not the easiest thing to do.

Actually the map is already given to you as a sdk example map. sdk_d1_trainstation_05 i believe is the one where it has the icthysaur.

Yeah right now if you try to place it in a map it will try and bite you if you get close, but it doesnt swim around or anything. That's what I'm trying to see if we can accomplish, because it would be beneficial to alot of mods.

As far I heard sometime there was a problem with the icthysaur drowning because it's underwater :?

I'll look into it though :)

Sure did Blink, and the new model looks twice as mean.

The drowning problem wouldn't be too hard to code out, and I wouldn't be surprised if it uses nodes and path_corners like the strider to move about. Sadly that might suck since it could only move to the nodes.

Someone check if the info_node_air_hint has a field for the ichthysaur. I'd do it, but I won't have access to the SDK until tonight.

i thought you could just create a func_fishpool and set the model to itchysaur.

I'm pretty sure thats how its supposed to work, it will then swim in the radius you specify.

damn straight its scary. it got to a point in half life one where I was just plain afraid of water. not fo the ichthyasaur, or water where there was an ichthyasaur, but all water in the game. terrified.

I'll give that a shot, but I'm pretty sure even that doesn't work. I've seen alot of requests for a working Ichy on VERC and elsewhere. (and of course I'd like him to work as well!)

I added a couple of them to a test map and it doesnt appear to drown but it does have the following problems:

1) It sits on the bottom of the pool.
2) It doesn't move anywhere.
3) It doesn't ragdoll on death.
4) It can attack you but only if you stand right in front of its jaws.
5) It doesn't make any sounds or anything when you hurt it.

Anyway I think these are all things we can solve as a team in code! :D

It doesn't have any ragdoll, and not a collision box if I remember correctly.
