Coders for a mod...

Postby Khaeotixs on Mon May 07, 2007 9:12 pm

It's a fairly small, multi-player mod called DeathCatch, and the co-owner is DESPERATE for coders. To be honest, i'm the top mapper and now i'm recruiting. It would be amazing if someone could help. I will provide you with his Xfire if you PM me with your credentials, and it would be much appreciated. At the moment, the mod is fairly small, but your help would make it grow. You will recieve full credit for all work you provide. Thank you for listening.

No offense but you didn't explain anything about what the mod is about, nor show us anything you've currently developed.. why do you think a programmer will join you without any of this?

oh yeah. Sorry. The mod is about changing multiplayer deathmatch into a purely physics-based game. Instead of using guns, the player uses the gravity gun to pick up and throw objects placed around the map. I don't have any pictures of the maps on this computer, but i will post some. At the moment it is in a closed base, and the only releases are purely informational.

Thank you

So... what, I can make all the other guns in the game unable to pick up if you want that so bad.

Hey guys, i know this is a new acc but im new to interlopers because my team-mate told me to join, however im no noob :P

anyway, im the leader of the deathcatch project and here is a short* explaination of dc.

Dc! dc DC! or deathcatch, whatever you want to call it is a sourcemod in development that hopefully will someday rival the greats, the objective of the game is to slay your opponents around the various landscapes with any props you can pick up with your Zero-point energy gun, or "gravgun" more advanced players will figure out tricks to gain the upper hand like the fact that grenades are not forbidden just to spice things up a bit, however no bullets should be fired.

the simple concept "Dodgeball with barrels" was the inital idea which developed into more of a prop_physics war where players shoot bricks, explosive barrels, sawblades etc. at each other in order to gain the most kills without firing a single bullet.

the reason we need a coder is because we want to make this our own sourcemod and awesome (and modest) map-makers though we are we don't know the slightest about sourcemods and need someone who would make a custom UI thing like on Dystopia or Synergy with working multiplayer modes and stuff.. im sure it's harder than it sounds, also we plan on having some custom players and weapons and stuff but the mod is still in the early stages and most things are at the "To be determined" stage...

..so if anyone is interested, post back.

*short- Ok... maybe it was a bit longer than i expected...

So this is just killing each other with the gravgun?

I love the concept just because the grav gun is my favorite but it sounds like you don't need a coder. Just learn your way around the resource and scripts folders and the rest can be done with the I/O system.

No he's not. They both have done work on Darksource and it gets confusing sometimes

not really, we are just not using bullets because they let down game tactics a little, spraying your smg around is great fun sometimes but it gets old after a while, the grav-gun has to be my favorite video game gun ever! portal gun being secondary for that because thats pretty awesome too

p.s. try to stay on topic :P

I don't get it. It still boils down to throwing props at eachother.

The only code you would need to change is the loadout in hl2mp_player.cpp so it only gives you the gravgun. The rest is already there for you... no coding needed.

Perhaps having traps and things that activate by pulling objects away from something by using the GG.
Barely working on (I'm still very busy with real life):

Would you even need that? There is an entity with dicates what items the players start with.

TBH you havn't really explained why you need coders.
